Gitte Moos Knudsen Copenhagen University Hospital, Neurobiology Research Unit (NRU), Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark ECNP Research Internship Gitte Moos Knudsen Copenhagen University Hospital, Neurobiology Research Unit (NRU), Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark NRU conducts translational neuroscience research on brain neurotransmission with the aim to promote preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic advances. We make use of in vivo molecular, structural, and functional brain imaging in healthy individuals as well as in patients with neurological or psychiatric brain disease, to uncover disease mechanisms and risk correlates as well as to determine drug effects. PET-, SPECT- and MRI-imaging are our modalities of expertise. We develop new PET- and SPECT-radiotracers for diagnostics or as biomarkers for use in brain disorders and we identify biomarkers and mechanisms behind affective, aggressive, neurodegenerative and - inflammatory disorders and develop new treatment or prevention strategies. At the NRU Laboratory, we work with different animal models, cell cultures (primary neuronal cultures and cell lines) and human material to elucidate the role of the several neurotransmitter systems in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases. Our overall aim is to understand the role of receptors and the pharmacological ligands that modulate such receptors. We use a number of technologies including fluorescence immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, autoradiography, receptor binding studies, PCR, western blot and ELISA. Students, research associates and postdoctoral fellows as well as members of the senior staff present their ongoing projects and journal clubs at weekly meetings. Such meetings are interactive and create a dynamic forum where ideas that range from the basal to the clinical neuroscience are exchanged and discussed. You can read more at www.nru.dk .

Several studies have shown a strong association between M. genitalium and HIV infection, especially in African study populations. M. genitalium infection has been shown to cause increased shedding of HIV virus in vaginal fluids and disruption of the genital mucosal barrier, thereby possibly enhancing HIV transmission. It has therefore been suggested that screening and treatment for M. genitalium should become part of HIV prevention strategies. There are few data on women living with HIV (WLWH) and M. genitalium from high-income countries, and none from Scandinavia. Our objective was to determine the prevalence of M. genitalium in WLWH in Denmark. Methods We tested cervical samples collected from 234 WLWH between February 2013 and February 2014.

    The Capital Region of Denmark THE CAPITAL REGION OF DENMARK´S STRATEGY FOR HEALTH RESEARCH 2018-2022 FOREWORD In the Capital Region of Denmark we have a robust health service that works every day to ensure that patients and citizens in the region can enjoy first-rate quality and access to new, advanced treatments. In these changing times, however, our health service is constantly being confronted with new challenges and opportunities. Our society depends on health research to open the door to the latest knowledge and findings and the best methods and technologies that guarantee patients excellent healthcare and quality of life. Research must be treated as a core activity in the health service and must therefore be promoted. The aim of our new Strategy for Health Research 2018-2022 is to focus our research efforts on four priority research fields, each of which plays a vital role in the develop- ment of the health service as a whole. The purpose of the research strategy is to bolster research in the region by enhancing research environments and increasing funding. Research in health prevention and health system organisation can play a part in resolving specific societal challenges. At the same time research fosters innovation and leads to a high level of training and education, ensuring that healthcare staff can continuously improve their skills in core areas. Research lays the foundation for strong and meaningful cooperation with external partners across sectors: the health service, universities, knowledge institutions, municipalities, practitioners and business and industry. Preface This annual report provides an overview of the scientific activities that took place within the Neurobiology Research U nit (NRU ) in 2004. Two PhD-theses were defended in 2004: Karen H usted Adams defended her thesis on 5- H T 2A receptor binding measurements in a large healthy control group. H er thesis is the first of many theses to follow from NRU within the field of clinical molecular neuroimaging studies. Kristin Scheuer, MD, defended her thesis on patients with H ereditary Spastic Paraplegia (H SP). She studied cerebral affection in SPG4 linked H SP by employing functional and structural neuroimaging in combination with comprehensive neuropsychological testing. In April, Professor Gitte M. Knudsen was appointed a tenure position as professor at the U niversity of Copenhagen and in June, she replaced Olaf B. Paulson as chairman of NRU . This ‘generation change’ had been carefully planned over several years and consequently the transition went quite smoothly. Professor Olaf B. Paulson remains as professor at NRU and as chairman of the Danish Research Centre for Magnetic Resonance at H vidovre U niversity H ospital. At the Neuroreceptor Mapping Meeting (NRM) that took place in Vancouver, Canada, this summer NRU was selected as a host of NRM in 2006. The preparations are already in full progress (for more information see also www.nrm06.org) and we look very much forward to welcome our colleagues to Copenhagen in July 2006.
