Of Business Administration, St. Francis de Sales College, Bangalore Event Coordinators: Prof. Maria Priya, Prof. Swathi Pahwa, Prof. Alan George Students Taken: B.B.A. Students No. of Students Taken: 59 Objectives: The objective is to give an exposure to the manufacturing, testing and marketing of electronic systems and gain an insight into the business environment Event Summary: A field visit to “Kaynes technologies Mysore”, was organized by the Department of Business administration on Friday, 28th February 2019. Kaynes Technology India Private Ltd, Mysore, India is a leading domestic player in the Electronics System & Design Manufacturing Services Space with Global foot print. Apart from its mother plant and additional manufacturing facility at Mysore it has five manufacturing plants at Bangalore, Chennai, Manesar, Parwanoo, and Selaqui. Forty-three students and two faculty visited the company to interact and understand current market scenarios, latest most demanding technologies & criteria for selection etc. In this visit students were very eagerly listening to industrial higher authorities. The process of manufacturing and conceptual design, manufacture and testing of high reliability PCBAs, Box Build, Products and Systems Integration Services, Military Wire/Cable Harness for Defence and Aerospace Electronics and all other segments of Industry were explained to the students in detail. The visit was highly informative to the students. The students were then taken on a fun trip to Mysuru Palace and KRS dam after their Buffet Lunch. Mysore Palace is a historical palace and a royal residence at Mysore in the Indian State of Karnataka. It is the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty and the seat of the Kingdom of Mysore. The palace is in the centre of Mysore, and faces the Chamundi Hills eastward. Krishna Raja Sagara, also popularly known as KRS, is a lake and the dam that creates it. They are close to the settlement of Krishnarajasagara in the Indian State of Karnataka. The gravity dam made of surki mortar is below the confluence of river Kaveri with its tributaries Hemavati and Lakshmana Tirtha, in the district of Mandya. The students enjoyed well also learning the history and artefacts of these places. The students then arrived at a resort arranged for campfire and buffet dinner. There were many management games organized by the faculty and followed by campfire were the students danced for the music and enjoyed thoroughly, sharing stories at the gaze of night sky. It was truly a memorable evening for the students to cherish for the rest of life. A decent buffet dinner was also arranged. The students reached Bangalore at night. Thus, the trip and industrial visit was well organized and appreciated by the staff and students of Business administration. Positive Outcomes: The students gained a real life exposure to the manufacturing process, the testing process and the business environment. This knowledge will inspire them into learning more about marketing, business and management. Photos .

The Cauvery Region Anurudh K Singh H.No. 2924, Sector-23, Gurgaon 122017, Haryana, India (email: [email protected]) Abstract The region drained by the Cauvery (Kaveri) river, particularly the delta area, falling in the state of Tamil Nadu, is an agriculturally important region where agriculture has been practiced from ancient times involving the majority of the local tribes and communities. The delta area of the river has been described as one of the most fertile regions of the country, often referred as the ‘Garden of South India’. Similarly, the river Cauvery is called the ‘Ganges of the South’. The region is a unique example of the knowledge and skills practiced by the local communities in river and water management with the construction of a series of dams for fl ood control, and the establishment of a network of irrigation systems to facilitate round- the-year highly productive cultivation of rice and other crops. Also, the region has developed internationally recognized sustainable systems with a conservational approach towards livestock rearing in semi-arid areas and fi shing in the coastal areas of the region. A joint decision was made to set-up two Skill Centre of Excellence (CoEs) – one in Greater Noida for Plumbing and one in Varanasi for the Services Sector. PMKVY Launched in 2015, it is a flagship program of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) implements it with the help of training partners. WHAT IS SECTION 144? • Section 144 also restricts carrying any sort of weapon in that area where it has been imposed and people can be detained for violating it.

    BRAINY IAS Cauvery River Verdict By Supreme Court Relevancy: ✓ GS Prelims, GS Mains paper II, III, geography optional ✓ Environment, Geography, Cauvery river dispute, river disputes in India Recently: ❖ The Supreme Court recently, in a verdict on the Cauvery river water dispute, reduced the allocation of water from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. ❖ Karnataka will now supply 177.25 tmc instead of 192 tmc - a reduction of 14.75 tmc, from its Billigundlu site to Mettur dam in Tamil Nadu ❖ The Court declared the Cauvery a “national asset” and largely upheld the water-sharing arrangements finalised by the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT) in its award on February 5, 2007, said Karnataka was entitled to a "marginal" relief. About Cauvery/ Kaveri river: • The 765-km-long Cauvery river originates in Kodagu district’s Talakaveri in Karnataka. • It flows through Haasan, Mandya, and Mysuru districts of Karnataka before entering Dharmapuri, Erode, Karur, Trichy, Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur and other districts in Tamil Nadu. • Apart from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the river and its tributaries also flow through Kerala and Puducherry. • Main tributaries of the river are: Harangi River, Hemavati River, Lakshmana Tirtha, Kabini River, Shimsha River, Bhavani River, Sarabanga River, Noyyal River, Amaravati River Highlights of the judgment: • The judgment concluded that the CWDT (Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal) did not take into account Tamil Nadu's stock of an “empirical” 20 TMC of groundwater. • The court held that it would take into account at least 10 tmc of this groundwater and reduce this amount from the 192 tmc supplied to Tamil Nadu. • The court observed that Bengaluru had attained the “global status” and its drinking water requirement had increased multi-fold.
