Cochin International Airport Limited is one of the country's latest and advanced airports with modern facilities and conveniences. This is the first airport in India that was constructed with private participation, outside the ambit of Airport Authority of India. All the other airports and other infrastructural facilities are owned, managed and operated by the government. Currently, it ranks as the third largest airport in India in terms of international passenger traffic after Mumbai and Delhi and the seventh largest airport in terms of domestic passenger traffic. An Airport built with an unbelievably low cost of Rs. 300 crores; the project started with a paltry amount of Rs. 20,000/- as its initial capital and with furniture and office equipments donated by various organizations, became a reality within a period of five years with an overall investment of Rs. 300 crores after acquiring about 1300 acres of land belonging to more than 2600 land owners. A rehabilitation package was also worked out for rehabilitating 822 families. The process entailed one of the biggest ever land acquisition process in the district. The study is useful in understanding the exact state of condition of persons displaced due to the setting up of the Cochin airport.

One of the major ports in the country Kochi is blessed with connection with other parts of the country through all modes of transport like road, rail, air and water. NH 17, NH 47, and NH 49 pass through Kochi. Kochi port is located on strategic International route. Broad gauge railway lines link up Kochi to all major cities of the country. Kochi has got one of the three international airports in the state. In addition to all these the regional road linkages are supplemented by an extensive network of navigation routes through the lagoon system, serving the movement of passenger and cargo. Insufficient carrying capacity of the intra-urban and sub urban routes, unhindered development of vast areas as urban extensions due to urbanization, unscientific planning in urban infrastructure development , absence of proper linkage of various forms of transportation etc. have resulted in an inadequate mobility system in the city and suburbs. As part of the comprehensive development of the city an efficient mobility plan has to be formulated. 1.2 STUDY AREA It was only in the beginning of the 19th century that Kochi , which was situated with in the narrow strip of land sandwiched between backwaters and sea outgrew to Ernakulam in the eastern side of the back waters. The narrow streets of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry were not sufficient to take up the travel demand even at that time.

    GREATER COCHIN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, KOCHI - 20 ADMINISTRATION REPORT - 2014-15 INTRODUCTION The Greater Cochin Development Authority has come into existence on 24.1.1976 under the Madras Town Planning Act of 1920 and Travancore Town Planning Act IV of 1108 read with G.O. (MS) No.19/76/LA & SWD dated 23.1.1976. This is a body coming under the Local self Government Department of the Kerala Government. As a first step towards the formalized development planning of the Cochin region, an advisory committee was set up in 1965. In the same year itself, a Joint Town Planning Committee was constituted for their planning & development and this committee has been elevated into a trust viz. Cochin Town Planning Trust under the Chairmanship of the District Collector. In the course of time, the authorities were convinced of the fact that a larger set up is required to control the growth of the Cochin City and its environs in a planned manner which resulted in the formation of GCDA in the year 1976. The jurisdiction of GCDA covers an area of 732 sq.kms consisting of Kochi Corporation 6 Municipalities and 33 Panchayaths. Subsequently, Goshree Island Development Authority (GIDA) was constituted vide G.O.(MS) No.114/94/LAD dated 18.5.1994 comprising 8 Island Panchayaths and two wards of Cochin Ccorporation viz; Thanthonnithuruthu and Fort Vyppin having an area of 100 sq.kms and thus delimiting the jurisdictional area of GCDA to 632 sq.kms.     DOCUMENTATION ON KUNNUKARA CDS 21st October, 2020. Submitted By 1 Brief History of Kunnukar Kunnukara is a census town and panchayat in Paravur Taluk of Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. The village is situated on the Airport road connecting North Paravur (NH66) and Nedumbassery (NH544). North Paravur is the nearest town, 7 km from this village. Aluva (10 km) and Angamaly (12 km) are also near to Kunnukara. Its administrative headquarters is in Kunnukara Town itself. The Mini Civil Station has four hospitals, all the Govt. offices, a Khadi Unit Supermarkets etc. The name Kunnukara is believed to be taken as the land of hills. Kunnukara panchayat was once part of Ayroor village union in Alengad taluk, later Alengad merged with N.Paravur and Kunnukara became panchayat. This place was under Kingdom of Cochin. During Mysorean invasion of Kerala, Tipu Sultan travelled through Manjaly via Kunnukara. Kunnukara is one of the easiest way to travel to the heart of the Kochi city without traffic. Kunnukara is surrounded by Periyar river in south, Chalakudy river in north and Manjaly Canal in its centre and west, Kunnukara is the part of Kerala backwaters. The surrounding areas are Chengamand panchayat in east, Thrissur district - Kuzhur panchayat in North, Puthenvelikkara panchayat in west and Karumallore panchayat to the south. Kunnukara is considered to be the rice grain of Paravur. The main source of income in the panchayat comes from agriculture. Different types of cultivations are there in the panchayat. Brick construction is a major industry in the panchayat. Kunnukara belongs to Parakkadav block panchayat. 2 GENERAL ACHIEVEMENTS The present Kunnukara CDS Administrative Body(CDS Committee) took charge on 26th January 2018 with 15 CDS members governed by CDS Chairperson and CDS Vice - Chairperson.
