The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has listed the electric eel Electrophorus electricus as a prohibited species. Prohibited nonnative species, "are considered to be dangerous to the ecology and/or the health and welfare of the people of Florida. These species are not allowed to be personally possessed or used for commercial activities” (FFWCC 2018). The State of Hawaii Plant Industry Division (2006) includes Electrophorus electricus on its list of prohibited animals. From -

Rapid Assessment – Awareness and Attitudes to Domestic Violence and Child Abuse in Guyana
Rapid Assessment – Awareness and Attitudes to Domestic Violence and Child Abuse in Guyana Community/Police Outreach of the Domestic Violence Prevention Initiative funded through the UNIFEM Trust Fund for Violence Against Women Help & Shelter, June 2005 Executive Summary Help & Shelter conducted a rapid assessment of attitudes and knowledge about domestic violence and child abuse to inform its public education and advocacy strategy. The methodology involved the use of face to face and telephone interviews. The following groups were consulted:- i) Individuals ii) Organisations iii) Police stations iv) Magistrate’s Courts The results of this survey indicate that there is growing public knowledge about the dynamics of domestic violence and child abuse, but still limited knowledge of the Domestic Violence Act (DVA) and its implementation. Most respondents believed that domestic violence is on the increase, and felt that the police have a greater role to play in alleviating domestic violence and child abuse. Despite the wider awareness in different regions around Guyana about the dynamics of domestic violence, it appears that the knowledge has yet to be transformed into effective action e.g. development of counseling services, advocacy for implementation of the DVA and the punishment/rehabilitation of perpetrators. The survey did not seek out survivors of domestic violence or child abuse. In January 1999, Help & Shelter in collaboration with Red Thread conducted a survey of police stations and courts to determine the level of awareness of the DVA. The scope of that survey was slightly different from the current survey, but comparisons between some of the results of the two surveys have been made. -

Whilst the current record sits at c.109lb (Brazil) weights of Order: Siluriformes c.200lb are highly likely. The Jau is solid muscle, and is at home in slow moving waters, deep Family: Pimelodidae holes as well as in fast currents. Easily identifiable through its dark and often ‘marbled’ skin, Genus: Zungaro these catfish have strength and stamina on their side, and will always use current and/or Species: Z. zungaro structure to their advantage. Once hooked, they are fierce fighters with a penchant for changing direction when least expected, often catching the angler off guard. One thing’s for certain though, give them get the edge and they will run rings around you. As with the other big Catfish of the region, strong primary and terminal tackle is essential. Catching Jau Use of either ‘live’ or ‘dead’ bait’ are effective and proven techniques. For both, don’t be put off by the size of bait you will use, large Jau have huge mouths and can easily swallow in whole fish or chunks of ‘cut-bait’ at 5lb+, but you will need to get the bait down as quickly as possible and then hold it there. -

Correo electrónico: [email protected] ABSTRACT In the Amazon basin it is distributed the greatest diversity of freshwater fish in the world, but presents less than half of the species described and/or with little knowledge about its biology and distribution. This work presents the composition of the ichthyofauna Igarapé Praquiquara, located in the municipality of Castanhal, belonging to the Northeast Atlantic Hydrographic Region, Brazil, through collections were conducted in the years 2014 and 2015. A total number of 1,073 fish were sampled, belonging to five orders, 16 families, 35 genusBryconops and 42 giacopinnispecies. CharaciformesCyphocharax and gouldingi PerciformesAstyanax were the Geophagusmost predominant proximus orders, and SatanopercaCichlidae and jurupari Characidae were the most abundant families, and , , sp., the most abundant species. Igarapé Praquiquara is composed of species with moderate commercial interest for commercial aquariums, with the presence of species cultivated in other regions. A structural analysis of the igarapé fish community is recommended in order to identify which factors are responsible for the composition of the ichthyofauna present, as well as the influence of the dam on the dispersion, distribution and reproduction of species. -

Summary: 321 species of birds, 6 species of mammals, 5 species of reptiles and amphibians, 9 species of notable insects, and 1 species of fish positively identified. BIRDS (321 species recorded, of which 7 were heard only and 12 seen by guides only): TINAMOUS (Tinamidae) (2) Little Tinamou (Crypturellus soui): (HO), heard on both full days near Surama. Undulated Tinamou (Crypturellus undulatus): heard and seen by a few on the Rupununi River boat trip. DUCKS, GEESE AND SWANS (Anatidae) (4) White-faced Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna viduata): seen, primarily at a distance and while flying, on the way to and around the savannas at Caiman House. Black-bellied Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis): small group observed in wetland on way to Narish’s house for Mahaica River boat trip. Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata): seen at different places on 4 days, mostly small groups flying. White-cheeked Pintail (Anas bahamensis): at least 2 found at a distance at the Ogle Seawall (a lifer for Ron!). -
