Houseboa Capita Favourite things to do....

Spend Quality Time Together Your houseboat adventure offers you unparalleled freedom. Celebrate special occasions or nothing at all as you create beautiful and amazing memories on board with family & friends. Be an Explorer The Trent Severn Waterway is an engineering marvel and is the ultimate aqueous highway that was first explored by Samuel de Champlain in 1514. The historical Route Champlain encompasses 1500 km of land and water exploration, although we are pretty sure the Kawarthas would have been his favourite part. First Nations Local aboriginal bands are keen to preserve their cultural and artistic traditions and often invite visitors to join in. Local artisans and musicians celebrate their art, history and culture through Pow Wows, but the most abiding reminder of aboriginal tradition is the canoe, a First Nations’ invention. Be Nauti-By-Nature Go jump in the lake! Ease in to your swim or take the plunge from the slide as you immerse yourself in the clear, crisp waters of the Trent Severn Waterway. Swim, star gaze, and bird watch from the deck of your houseboat. Soak up the sun and find your zen spot. Chews & Cruise Love everything local! Farmers’ Markets, private chefs and a great selection of restaurants will appeal to even the most discerning of tastes. Provisioning your houseboat is easily done in many of the quaint, European flavoured communities that line the waterway. Hike Make sure to pack a comfortable pair of walking shoes because the Trans Canada Trail is easily accessible en route for hiking and biking enthusiasts.

No matter where you go... you are already there! Fishing Enjoy world class fishing everywhere! Drop your line in anywhere and cook ‘em as you catch ‘em. When fishing from your houseboat , follow the Ministry of Natural Resources guidelines for Zone 17. Be Young at Heart Public beaches, playgrounds, mini golf, splash pads and a mobile wakeboard school are just a few of the fun things to do for kids and adults alike. Get on the water with some additional water craft such as kayaks and Stand Up Paddle boards. Culture & the Arts Nature and the great outdoors have never been so civilized. Enjoy live theatre, free outdoor music concerts, museums and art galleries. Shop till you drop Shoes, boots and bathing suits! The Kawarthas are a great place to re-invent your wardrobe and there are many stores within walking distance of the locks. There are so many interesting items, you’ll be sure to go home with a special souvenir. Trip Planning

Locking Through Going through a lock is an exciting experience. Every day is a boat parade and a great opportunity to meet other boaters who are enjoying the Trent Severn Waterway. Travel time between destinations are approximate and do not include the time it takes to lock through as each lock is different. All locks offer a park like setting with green space to go ashore. Picnic tables, public washrooms and garbage disposal are available. Upstream beyond Kirkfield... enjoy canal navigation from Bolsover to Gamebridge that takes you through pastoral farmland, swing bridges and manual locks. LAKE SIMCOE For safety reasons, we STRONGLY advise our boaters not to venture on to the unprotected waters of Lake Simcoe. Frequent changes in weather conditions and sudden storms can cause unsafe boating conditions. downstream once you are through Lock 26, you are on the Otonabee River and will traverse 7 locks on your way to the World’s Highest Hydraulic Lift Lock. Peterborough Lift Lock is also home to the marine museum where you can see the history of the Trent Severn Waterway and lock system. PETERBOROUGH Big city action with great restaurants, a zoo and lots of great attractions and events. During the summer on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, there is free live music at Del Crary Park which is right beside the Peterborough Marina. The Canadian Canoe Museum is a must see.
