Dear Resident;

As you may know, the mayors of Niagara’s 12 municipalities have joined forces with Niagara Regional Council to bring daily commuter GO Train service to Niagara.

This is an important issue that has significant implications for the economic growth of our region. Commuter rail service would expand the scope of Niagara’s employment market by drawing new job opportunities to the region and opening new avenues to access jobs in the Greater Toronto Area.

While the province and Metrolinx are looking to expand Go Transit, there has been no discussion of a transit system beyond Hamilton. We want to change that, but to do so we need your help. We need to let our representatives at Queen’s Park know that GO Transit matters to the people of Niagara.

I ask that you take the time to write a quick letter to the Premier, our provincial candidates in the coming by-election, and opposition leaders at Queen’s Park to let them know that:

 Niagara is united in its quest to bring commuter GO Train service to the Peninsula;  This is important for the economic development of the province and will provide another vital link between the GTA, Niagara, and the United States;  Public transit will help improve commute times and allow us more time with our families and in our community;  We care about the environment in Niagara and support initiatives that will take cars off the congested QEW; and  It is reasonable to ask for this service to be in place by the summer of 2015.

Thank you for your time and support on this very important matter. Together, we can enact change that will make Niagara an even better place to live, work, and play.

Contact information for the elected officials noted above is attached.

Sincerely,

Dave Eke, Lord Mayor

Mr. Bart Maves PC Candidate for Niagara Falls 4536 Portage Road Niagara Falls, ON L2E 6A8

Dear Mr. Maves:

As Lord Mayor of the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake and a Niagara Regional Councillor, I wish to impress upon you the vital importance of a public transit link between the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Niagara region.

In June of 2011, Niagara Regional Council unanimously endorsed a motion to bring daily commuter GO Train service to this area.

We believe that expanding GO Train service to Niagara would be a significant factor in the economic growth of our region. Commuter rail service would expand the scope of Niagara’s employment market by drawing new job opportunities to the region and opening new avenues to access jobs in the Greater Toronto Area.

The current review of GO Transit services makes no mention of any expansion beyond Hamilton. We believe this needs to change as GO Transit is equally important to the people of Niagara.

Please know that: Niagara is united in its quest to bring commuter GO Train service to the Peninsula; This is important for the economic development of the province and will provide another vital link between the GTA, Niagara, and the United States; Public transit will help improve commute times and allow us more time with our families and in our community; We care about the environment in Niagara and support initiatives that will take cars off the congested QEW; and It is reasonable to ask for this service to be in place by the summer of 2015.
