e HMS Hermes Association Mr R Peter Wright More than a decade ago when the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel Trustees were trying to raise the £2.3 million needed to build the Chapel, they launched the ‘Sponsor A Seat’ Scheme, and more than 120 seats were sponsored @ £1000 each. e scheme was re-launched for the 10th Anniversary of the Opening of the Memorial Chapel by Her Majesty e Queen in order to raise money to help preserve the heritage and condition of the Chapel for time immemorial and many generous people came forward to remember family members and comrades in arms.

Since its opening in 2000 the Chapel has grown in stature as the national memorial commemorating those who gave their lives in 1982 in the South Atlantic. It has become an important and much loved place where those who lost loved ones can worship and remember in solace or with others at annual gatherings. It is a special place of prayer and peaceful contemplation which year on year attracts more of those wounded by loss or memories of events in combat.

Sponsoring a Seat in the Memorial Chapel is a lovely way of marking your remembrance of someone special whose memory lives on. Many of the seats already sponsored came from Ship’s Companies and Associations, Regiments, Squadrons and Battalions, families and family members together with companies who were involved in some way during the . Others came from groups who had got together and done sponsored runs, yomps, & marathons. Each seat sponsored bears a plaque with an appropriate message. ✁

You can sponsor a seat for £1000 but if the amount is gift aided you need only provide £800 (+ Gift Aid). I would like to sponsor a Chapel Seat: Name...... Address...... Telephone...... Email...... My Seat will remember...... e wording I would like is (no more than 10 words please) ......
