  • Kujalleq Nutaaq ERHVERVSUDVIKLINGS FORSLAG for Kommune Kujalleq
Kujalleq Nutaaq ERHVERVSUDVIKLINGS FORSLAG for Kommune Kujalleq Version 1.0 - 2020 Innovation South Greenland A/S, Torvevej 34, Postboks 313, 3920 Qaqortoq, Greenland Oqarasuaat +299 537777, e-mail: [email protected] Forord Innovation South Greenland arbejder målrettet for at få udviklingen i gang i hele Sydgrønland. Dette dokument afspejler anbefalingerne til Kommunalbestyrelsen. 1.

  • Conceptualizing the Blue Frontier: the Great Qing and the Maritime World
Conceptualizing the Blue Frontier: The Great Qing and the Maritime World in the Long Eighteenth Century Inauguraldissertation zur Erlangung der Doktorwürde der Philosophischen Fakultüt der Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg Vorgelegt von Chung-yam PO Erstgutachter: Prof. Dr. Harald Fuess Zweitgutachter: Prof. Dr. Joachim Kurtz Datum: 28 June 2013 Table of Contents Abstract 2 Acknowledgments 3 Emperors of the Qing Dynasty 5 Map of China Coast 6 Introduction 7 Chapter 1 Setting the Scene 43 Chapter 2 Modeling the Sea Space 62 Chapter 3 The Dragon Navy 109 Chapter 4 Maritime Customs Office 160 Chapter 5 Writing the Waves 210 Conclusion 247 Glossary 255 Bibliography 257 1 Abstract Most previous scholarship has asserted that the Qing Empire neglected the sea and underestimated the worldwide rise of Western powers in the long eighteenth century. By the time the British crushed the Chinese navy in the so-called Opium Wars, the country and its government were in a state of shock and incapable of quickly catching-up with Western Europe. In contrast with such a narrative, this dissertation shows that the Great Qing was in fact far more aware of global trends than has been commonly assumed. Against the backdrop of the long eighteenth century, the author explores the fundamental historical notions of the Chinese maritime world as a conceptual divide between an inner and an outer sea, whereby administrators, merchants, and intellectuals paid close and intense attention to coastal seawaters. Drawing on archival sources from China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and the West, the author argues that the connection between the Great Qing and the maritime world was complex and sophisticated.

  • A Dangling Slab, Amplified Arc Volcanism, Mantle Flow and Seismic Anisotropy in the Kamchatka Plate Corner
AGU Geodynamics Series Volume 30, PLATE BOUNDARY ZONES Edited by Seth Stein and Jeffrey T. Freymueller, p. 295-324 1 A Dangling Slab, Amplified Arc Volcanism, Mantle Flow and Seismic Anisotropy in the Kamchatka Plate Corner Jeffrey Park,1 Yadim Levin,1 Mark Brandon,1 Jonathan Lees,2 Valerie Peyton,3 Evgenii Gordeev ) 4 Alexei Ozerov ,4 Book chapter in press with "Plate Boundary Zones," edited by Seth Stein and Jeffrey Freymuller Abstract The Kamchatka peninsula in Russian East Asia lies at the junction of a transcurrent plate boundary, aligned with the western Aleutian Islands, and a steeply-dipping subduction zone with near-normal convergence. Seismicity patterns and P-wave tomography argue that subducting Pacific lithosphere terminates at the Aleutian junction, and that the downdip extension (>150km depth) of the slab edge is missing. Seismic observables of elastic anisotropy (SKS splitting and Love-Rayleigh scattering) are consistent \Vith asthenospheric strain that rotates from trench-parallel beneath the descending slab to trench-normal beyond its edge. Present-day arc volcanism is concentrated near the slab edge, in the Klyuchevskoy and Sheveluch eruptive centers. Loss of the downdip slab edge, whether from thermo-convective or ductile instability, and subsequent "slab-window" mantle return flow is indicated by widespread Quaternary volcanism in the Sredinny Range inland of Klyuchevskoy and Sheveluch, as well as the inferred Quaternary uplift of the central Kamchatka depression. The slab beneath Klyuchevskoy has shallower dip (35°) than the subduction zone farther south (55°) suggesting a transient lofting of the slab edge, either from asthenospheric flow or the loss of downdip load.

  • Social Ecology and Language History in the Northern Vanuatu Linkage a Tale of Divergence and Convergence*
Social ecology and language history in the northern Vanuatu linkage A tale of divergence and convergence* Alexandre François Langues et Civilisations à Tradition Orale (Lacito-CNRS) & Australian National University This study describes and explains the paradox of related languages in con- tact that show signs of both linguistic divergence and convergence. Seventeen distinct languages are spoken in the northernmost islands of Vanuatu. These closely related Oceanic languages have evolved from an earlier dialect network, by progressive diversification. Innovations affecting word forms — mostly sound change and lexical replacement — have usually spread only short distances across the network; their accumulation over time has resulted in linguistic frag- mentation, as each spatially-anchored community developed its own distinctive vocabulary. However, while languages follow a strong tendency to diverge in the form of their words, they also exhibit a high degree of isomorphism in their linguistic structures, and in the organization of their grammars and lexicons. This structural homogeneity, typically manifested by the perfect translatability of constructions across languages, reflects the traditions of mutual contact and multilingualism which these small communities have followed throughout their history. While word forms are perceived as emblematic of place and diffuse to smaller social circles, linguistic structures are left free to diffuse across much broader networks. Ultimately, the effects of divergence and convergence are the end result, over time, of these two distinct forms of horizontal diffusion. Keywords: language change, language contact, areal diffusion, structural borrowing, lexical replacement, linguistic diversification, historical dialectology, Melanesia 1. Sister languages in contact: Divergence or convergence? The present study examines the processes of divergence and convergence which characterize the historical evolution of a group of closely related languages spoken Journal of Historical Linguistics 1:2 (2011), 175–246.

Petrakakis Department of Geodynamics and Sedimentology, University of Vienna, Austria Keywords: Aegean, Cyclades, Serifos, metamorphic core complex, plutonism, low-angle normal fault, high-angle normal fault Evolution of the Serifos Metamorphic Core Complex Page 1 Journal of the Virtual Explorer, 2007 Volume 27 Paper 2 http://virtualexplorer.com.au/ Abstract: Serifos is located in the Aegean Sea, 100 km southeast of Athens and belongs to the Cycladic Islands. Geologically, Serifos belongs to the Attic-Cycladic massif and the island is largely dominated by a Late Miocene shallow-level I-type granodiorite pluton in the central and SE portion of the island. The pluton intruded into mylonitized orthogneisses, amphibolites, schists, calc-silicates, marbles and marble meta-conglom- erates. Because the host-rocks near the largely undeformed granodiorite pluton contain weakly deformed Ca-Fe-Mg high-temperature skarns, Fe-ores and extensive hydrother- mal alteration, the intrusion has been generally considered to be post-tectonic. Although the granodiorite intrusion clearly crosscuts the regional metamorphic fabric, the uppermost structural levels of the granodiorite, together with its host-rocks, are strongly overprinted by networks of greenschist-facies to cataclastic shear zones that record a notably consistent stretching lineation direction, associated with non-coaxial SSW-directed shear. The immediate host-rocks near the intrusion are mainly mylonitic orthogneisses and amphibolites that were highly deformed at temperatures > 450 °C.
