PTMP and PSR projects are the future of Penang buletinmutiara.com/ptmp-and-psr-projects-are-the-future-of-penang THE Penang government is committed to implementing its long-term plan such as the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) and Penang South Reclamation (PSR) projects. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the future of the state lies with these mega projects because they are a springboard for Penang’s highly competitive growth towards gaining an international stature as an intelligent state in the coming decades. “PTMP is a long-term plan which is aimed at addressing two main concerns. One is the traffic congestion due to inadequate infrastructure and transportation network. “The other is the lack of quality land for development to meet industrial and commercial expansion that is necessary to cater for the growing population on the island as well as the mainland. Both these issues combined hamper the economic progress in Penang. “Thus, PTMP is seen as a transformative transportation development master plan that can address the challenges we are currently facing. It can also help in striking an economic and social balance for the state government, especially in addressing the problems of traffic congestion,” he said during his keynote speech for Penang Transport Forum 2019: Unlocking Mobility in Penang Through Rail at St Giles Wembley Hotel in George Town today. Chow said the PSR, on the other hand, is seen as a Penang Economic Transformation project with the aim of creating a robust international service and manufacturing hub. 1/2 “With a proposed 4,500 acres of reclaimed land, the state government can then provide quality affordable homes at strategic locations linked by LRT, trams and highways.

The Ju Huat Cafe played host to Karpal's weekend press conferences in Penang, which he would have after 11am on Saturdays and occasionally on Sundays. Ramkarpal, 38, said his father would make the trip there to meet the press and his constituents, regardless if it was rain or shine. And reporters were always guaranteed of a good story from the veteran politician, who won the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat after the 2004 general election. "This coffee shop holds many memories. The 'Ah Ee' (auntie) who runs the place has agreed to let us continue the practice if we win again," Ramkarpal told reporters at Ju Huat this morning during his visit to Air Itam for the by-election campaign. He said it was like a homecoming affair for him visiting Air Itam and the coffee shop because his father loved the place. When he first came to power in 2009, Najib Razak introduced several reforms in an attempt to win back votes after the fiasco for the ruling coalition in the 2008 general election. This attempt at reform has been reversed after yet another debacle for BN in the 2013 general election, epitomized by the about-turn decision on the promise to repeal the Sedition Act, with the Prime Minister seemingly bowing down to demands of extremist groups for his own political survival and bent on teaching dissenting voters a lesson.
