Lucas Oil bringing drag boat to Lake Havasu By DAVID BELL Today’s News-Herald | Posted: Friday, December 21, 2012 12:00 am LAKE HAVASU CITY — The organization that sponsors an series at Havasu 95 Speedway announced plans to head to the water in 2013. The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series will make a stop on Lake Havasu, with the inaugural Thunder on the River, Oct. 11-13, 2013. The race will be the ninth race on the 10-race Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series schedule. “We’re looking to bring something different to Lake Havasu,” said Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series Director Ken Dollar. “Hot boats, speed boats, Lake Havasu is really where that started. There’s so much history there,” he continued. “But I think fans are really going to love this; quarter-mile drag races where the Hydros go 1,000-feet in 3.3 seconds, at speeds up to 260 MPH.” Lucas Oil picked a big race weekend to kick off the race — it’s the same weekend as the professional finals of the IJSBA Personal Watercraft World Finals. The PWC races will take place on Windsor Bay to the north of the Island, off Crazy Horse Beach, while the drag will be on Thompson Bay, off Rotary Park Beach, to the south. ‘Motor heads are motor heads; they just love racing. Any kind of racing,” Dollar said. “And I’ve never seen any city with more motor heads than Lake Havasu City. Even more than Southern California.” Dollar said Rotary Beach would serve as the location for spectators and for a family fun area. Lucas Oil is already part of Lake Havasu City racing, sponsoring the Lucas Oil Modified Series at Havasu 95 Speedway. In addition, Team Lucas stages the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Series, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing presented by GEICO, Lucas Oil Speedway, Lucas Oil Production Studios and the Indianapolis Colts Lucas Oil Stadium.
