FINDING AN INTERNSHIP

At Occidental College, students are not placed into internships. Instead, it is the student's responsibility to research options and find a suitable site. However, there are several Career Development Center resources that provide a great place to start your search for an internship. Your primary resources include: TIGERlink, NIC, LACN. Additionally, talk to faculty members, use your network (friends, family, alumni), and be willing to do research.

Resources

 TIGERlink is an Oxy only resource that allows students to identify available full-time, part-time, summer and temporary jobs and internships. This site also provides you with the opportunity to make appointments with the CDC staff and keep abreast of upcoming events. As an Oxy student, an account is automatically created for you. To log-in simply access the following site: https://oxy- csm.symplicity.com/students/ and type in your Oxy email address with your password (please note that this password is different from your Oxy network).  Occidental College belongs to the Nationwide Internship Consortium (NIC) which allows access to thousands of national internship opportunities. Internships target students from liberal arts colleges. NIC includes colleges like: the , , , Lewis & Clark College, Johns Hopkins University, Mt. INTERNSHIP SITES

There are several on-line sites that offer excellent choices for just about any type of internship. On the sites listed below, you will find opportunities for a variety of internship opportunities available for fall, spring and summer semesters, as well as internships abroad. This not a comprehensive list, but a starting point of general sites. There are several sites that target specific career fields or areas of interest. Remember as with any internship opportunity, you should carefully evaluate the opportunity for yourself to the legitimacy of the opening and the safety of the environment.

Simply Hired is an easy to use site that aggregates job listings including direct employer websites, staffing and placement firms, job boards, etc. Additional tools and filters help focus searches and make individual preferences like pet and eco friendly companies, findable.

LinkedIn.com

From following a company of interest to joining professional associations/groups, LinkedIn is another tool that can aid you in your search for both jobs and internships The CDC holds workshops throughout the year on how to successfully navigate and use LinkedIn.

InternMatch.com

InternMatch works with a number of leading non-profit organizations and has positions available in micro-finance, environmental sustainability and social justice. It also provides a number of free accessible guides.

InternSushi.com

On Intern Sushi, both interns and companies create Profiles that bring their personalities, achievements and goals to life. Interns can apply to internships with top companies right through the site or use their Profiles as personal websites to share wherever they'd like. Companies are able to scout for talent to find the interns that best fit their available internships. Interns are encouraged to be picky about where they intern and companies about who they hire.
