A good entry of prime cattle met an improved trade with demand remaining very firm for all types as can be seen in the increased averages. Almost a third on offer realising £2/kilo or over with steers to 220p/kg and 218p/kg for Limousin crosses from Mr. A.M.C. Eddy of St. Erth bought by Dales Family Butchers of and R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow respectively. Again this week the money gets bigger with a huge 847kg Blonde d’Aquitaine x from J.B. Old Farms Ltd of Treyarnon Bay realising £1,525 to David King of Exeter; and at £1,460 was a 712kg Limousin x at 205p/kg for Messrs. R.E, G.L. & M.R. Body of selling to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. Premium heifer and also standing top value at £1,443 was a 668kg Limousin x at 216p/kg from Messrs. G.W. & H.E. Hawkey of St. Wenn purchased by David Wilton of Peter Morris Butchers, St. Columb.

An improved entry of cull cows met a cracking trade with very strong demand for all on offer. This week saw top prices and averages rising yet again with eleven cows selling for over 140p/kg. Top price twice was 160p/kg for a Limousin x from H.R. Lyne & Son Ltd of Manaccan and top South Devon x from a super run from Mr. T.G. Hawke of Colan who sold a heavier 803kg cow at 159p/kg to a top value of £1,277, all bought by David King of Exeter. A trio of Friesians all at 138p/kg with two for Mr. D.J. Heller of Blackwater and Messrs. C.N. Thomas & Son of St. Wenn whose 842kg cow realised £1,162, all three also bought by David King.

A grand entry of store cattle met an extremely lively trade with demand for all offer. With almost 250 cattle forward demand still continues to outstrip supply. A highlight of the day was a superb show of ten Limousin x cattle from Messrs. R, H.T. & R.M. Rowe of Gwinear which saw four 18/19 month old steers top at £1,170 and a further four at £1,090. Older Charolais and Longhorn steers over £1,100 with £1,140 for Messrs. H. Dunstan & Sons of Mabe and £1,125 for Messrs. T.A. & F.A. Jenkin of Newbridge respectively. At £1,120 stood an exceptional Limousin x yearling steer for Messrs. T.A. & F.A. Jenkin of Newbridge. Other breeds of youngstock also selling well with nice Simmental crosses to £1,045 for oldest 16 month trio from Messrs. I.D. & S.S. As always, there is the usual balancing act of selling lambs fresh-coated -v- carcass weights. The top prices below reflect the current demand for well-finished heavier weights. An enormous pair of 76.5kg Suffolk ram lambs from Mr. B. Roth of Tolgus Mount sold at £100 to J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station. Two pens of well-finished Charollais x lambs from Mr. J.D.
