The club started the vintage season by taking part in the Blarney St. Patrick's Day Parade which was a very successful social event. Then, on July 10th, they held their annual Chris Pardoe Memorial Car Run to Millstreet Country Park in aid of Cork Alzheimers Society, a really enjoyable day was had by all. Subsequently they organised the Blarney Classic and Vintage Car Festival along with the support of Blarney Chamber of Commerce over the August bank holiday weekend. This was another outstanding event following on the success of the first running of the festival in 2012. The club increased the show from a two day to a three day event with the show opening on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. A farmers market, children’s activities, photography display by Blarney Photographic Club, a best dressed lady competition and a people’s choice prize for the best classic car, all added excitement and atmosphere to this prestigious event and the club thank everyone who helped with the organisation and sponsorship. The people’s choice car was a beautiful 1934 MG PA, a very worthy winner. The next event which the club organised, along with Charleville and District Vintage Car Club, was the annual Dingle Peninsula Classic car run which is based in Ventry and was, once again, another great success. The Christmas social was then organised and invitations were sent out to the clubs sponsors and supporters. A cheque was presented to The Alzheimers Society on the night and everyone had a great time. The Club would like to wish all their members and supporters a very happy new year and is looking forward to all of the clubs activities for 2012.

Mrs Marian Mortell has been co-ordinating the annual Christmas charity carol-singing with the 6th Year students of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Blarney, since she joined the staff of the school 21 years ago. The carol-singing, which raises funds for St. Vincent de Paul, has been part of the school’s extra-curricular activities for more than 30 years, having been started by the late Mick Murphy, and has been organised with great enthusiasm by Marian over the time she has spent in the school. With the exception of one year, when the foot-and-mouth outbreak limited public gatherings, Marian, her colleagues and her 6th Year students have gathered in cold, snow, rain, wind and ice, and collected thousands of punts and euro for a grateful SVP, all of which has been put to very good use over the years. Marian retired from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál this year and be greatly missed by the school community. We wish Marian and her husband Phil the very best for 2012 and in their future theological studies.
