26 GLANMIRE AREA NEWS - SHOP LOCAL & SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS JULY 2014 UPPER GLANMIRE ICA Ask Your Pharmacist with Keith O’Hourihane, Superintendent Pharmacist [email protected]

I am often faced with the question 'Why do I need to know what my cholesterol is?' from patients in all our pharmacies. It is a fair question, but one with a simple answer. The ancient Greeks used to say “wisdom outweighs wealth” and by knowing your cholesterol figures you have the power in your own hands.

This power I speak of is the knowledge of certain risks. Our Craft Class presenting the Blankets to Ann Dowley With your cholesterol figures we can assess your Spillane and Elma O'Mahony from The Girls Club chances of having a heart attack, stroke etc, but more importantly our pharmacists can provide you with the right information to reduce that risk.

You can get either your Total Cholesterol tested, or else you can get a full breakdown of that tested by a member of our clinical team. The full breakdown will let our pharmacists know the ratio of good cholesterol to bad cholesterol in your blood, allowing us to give you the best advice available.
