Kelezel the only cool song in this album has to be: take me!, the other are a bunch of electro-house crappy songs. Wooden Purple Romeo The constant chameleont of EDM, Mr. Ferry Costen has released his 4th artist album about month ago. Here some words on the WKND-offspring.The concept of album is quite clever. We have been blessed with 4 singles taken from the album before the release. When it comes to artwork they have been like pieces of bigger puzzle when revealing one corner of Corsten's face and now joining together at the WKND-cover. Othervise the artwork doesn't really awake bigger feelings neither the idea of the cd-holder. Very plain, easy and with low-costs made. Perhaps it tells about the endangered status of cd-albums in EDM -business. Anyway, thank You Flashover Recordings Team for still releasing CD-format.Into the album. The start is very mellow and soft with "A Day Without Rain". Perhaps nothing that special but nice flow into the party – what the whole album is all about. After this track one after another follows steadily the guideline of Rotterdam-based mastermind: fresh sounding and tight, umcompromised party-album for the 2012 posse. Tracks and songs are melodically quite superficial, easy-to-sing-along-with, short from their duration, yet powerful and technically upmost level presenting dancemonsters. Funny to see that the easy going -theme continues even in naming of the tracks, mostly two or three words titles are easy to remember even if the party feeling get too wet ;-)WKND is quite an opposite to its previous elder sister "". The mature, gloomy and trancy atmosphere is almost totally absent and replaced by popish dance tracks flavoured mostly with current nu + electro-house era sounds and lots of catchy vocals. For the hardcore-fans of Corsten there are luckily some stains of his trance thinking left: "Take Me" is for the reviewer the ultimate track of the album combining jarresque session-based solo melody with interesting 80s comp and strong corsten-style bassline together. As outcome we have very personal approach to trance-music that doesn't come across that often nowadays. As well the updated housenized version of Moonman-moniker classic "Don't Be Afraid" is great fun, but little bit too short. The collaboration with Armin, "Brute" owns huge potential but somehow the production is still uncomplete and the result could be even harder and edgier. When thinking the whole the iTunes bonus track " Sunday" would have been perfect outro for the album instead of quite messy "WKND"-title theme made together with Rafaël Frost. Best vocals deliver Jes with "In Your Eyes". Worth of mentioning is as well the current single "Ain't No Stoppin'" and sunny "Live Forever" sang by Aruna.WKND is reflecting very much what is going on at the moment in the dance music industry. For sure this won't be a classic album to be remembered or listened many years after its release but for this very year 2012 WKND has set the standards that Paul van Dyk and other dance music album releasers should try compete with. Madonna's MDNA has been challenged as well. Once again Ferry Corsten shows his amazing technical level and abilities and his triumphing sense for great dance music. The mastermind is back! Maybe not that original as before yet very big sounding and straight forward thinking.4/5
