Toronto does not yet have such a network, as you will discover through the maps and historical photographs in this interactive web-book. We hope the material will contribute to ongoing debates on the need to create such a network. Ii) e G~ !, ur cover photograph and the two pictures on the opposite page record a truly historic event for the Canadian Railroad His torical Association -- the first operation of a "museum" locomotive under steam. This very worthy centennial activity has been carried out by our EDMONTON CHAPTER, notwithstanding very limited material resources. As mentioned in an earlier "Canadian Rail", Northern Alberta 2-8-0 No. 73 was moved outside of the Cromdale carbarns of the Edmonton Transit System before Christmas 1966, but this was by filling the boiler with air pressure at 100 pounds per inch squared. This provided sufficient energy to move the locomotive in and out of the barns and served as a cold test of the restored engine's pipes and valves. Recently, the Edmonton Chapter obtained an Alberta Pro vincial boiler inspection certificate and the engine was steamed for the first time since being donated to the Association, on April 29. The accompanying photos were taken on April 30. The engine is in fine condition and reflects great credit on the Edmonton team, led by Harold Maw, which has worked long and hard on the restoration project. One stall of the Cromdale carbarns, now used for buses, has been made available to the C.R.H.A. and houses Edmonton street car No. I, Locomotive No. 73, and other smaller items such as handcars. The carbarns are located immediately alongside the CN's main line leading to the downtown passenger station and are served by a railway spur. -

Appendix III Update on Bill 222: Ontario Rebuilding and Recovery Act November 23, 2020 Ms. Cheryl Davis Ministry of Transportation – Environmental Policy Office 777 Bay Street Suite 700 Toronto, ON M7A 2J8 Canada Dear Ms. Davis: Re: Bill 222 – Ontario Rebuilding and Recovery Act, 2020 (ERO #019-2566) Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on the above noted Environmental Registry of Ontario posting. The following comments are provided by Region of Peel staff as input into the proposed amendments to the Building Transit Faster Act, 2020, Public Service Works on Highways Act, and Transit-Oriented Communities Act, 2020. This letter is considered to be staff level comments. If additional comments are provided through a Regional Council resolution, they will be forwarded to Ministry staff for further consideration. The Region supports the goals of accelerating the delivery of major provincial public infrastructure projects such as transit and highways. Staff are supportive of these measures in order to strengthen communities, create jobs, increase critical services in the Province, and support future growth within the Region. However, further details on the mechanisms and regulations to implement these initiatives and the impacts on local municipal works is required. Staff continue to plan and advocate for the development of transit-oriented complete communities in Peel. Through continued partnership with our provincial and local counterparts, staff remain committed to planning for higher order transit and linear infrastructure to accommodate forecasted population and employment growth in the Region. Further, staff support exploring extending the streamlining initiatives to linear municipal infrastructure such water and wastewater. -

Bolton Residential Expansion Study (BRES) and Successful Integration of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) May 24, 2016 The purpose of this memorandum is to review the professional literature pertaining to the potential develop- ment of a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) in the Bolton Residential Expansion Study area, in response to the Region of Peel’s recent release of the Discussion Paper. The Discussion Paper includes the establishment of evaluation themes and criteria, which are based on provincial and regional polices, stakeholder and public comments. It should be noted that while the Discussion Paper and the Region’s development of criteria does not specifi- cally advocate for TOD, it is the intent of this memorandum to illustrate that TOD-centric planning will not only adequately address such criteria, but will also complement and enhance the Region’s planning principles, key points and/or themes found in stakeholder and public comments. In the following are research findings related to TOD generally, and specifically, theMetrolinx Mobility Hub Guidelines For The Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (September 2011) objectives. Additionally, following a review and assessment of the “Response to Comments Submitted on the Bolton Residential Expansion Study ROPA” submission prepared by SGL Planning & Design Inc. (March 15, 2016), this memorandum evaluates some of the key arguments and assumptions made in this submission relative to the TOD research findings. Planning for Transit-Oriented Developments TOD policy and programs can result in catalytic development that creates walkable, livable neighborhoods around transit providing economic, livability and equitable benefits. The body of research on TODs in the United States has shown that TODs are more likely to succeed when project planning takes place in conjunction with transit system expansion. -
Guildwood GO Station Construction Update
Lakeshore East Corridor Guildwood GO Station Construction JUNE 2016 Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario, is working to transform the way the region moves by building a seamless, convenient and integrated transit network across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Over the next ten years, Metrolinx is transforming the existing GO rail system to deliver a whole new rapid transit experience to your community. With more frequent train service you’ll have more options to get you where you need to go. THE LOCAL PROJECT – PEDESTRIAN TUNNEL SLIDE Metrolinx is working to make major upgrades to Guildwood GO Station to make it easier and more convenient to access the station. This work supports future 15 minute, two-way all-day electrified service that is fast, frequent, and reliable for residents of the Guildwood community. Thank you for your patience during the overnight drilling work. The next major step in construction is sliding the new pedestrian tunnels under the rail corridor. This work will occur over two weekends in July: Friday, July 8 at 8:00 p.m. to Monday, July 11 at 5:00 a.m. and Friday July 22 at 8:00 p.m. to Monday, July 25 at 5:00 p.m. The new pedestrian tunnels will be wider, longer, have improved lighting, and elevators which will enhance access and safety. Metrolinx, a Crown agency of the Province of Ontario under the responsibility of the Ministry of Transportation, has three operating divisions: GO Transit, PRESTO and Union Pearson Express. This Status Report, in conjunction with the December 2012 Metrolinx Multi-Year Accessibility Plan, fulfills Metrolinx’s legal obligations for 2016 under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (ODA), to publish an annual accessibility plan; and also under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), to publish an annual status report on its multi-year plan. The overall guiding policy of this plan is: the "Get Toronto Moving' Transportation Plan oversees policies and projects with the goal of improving the efficiency of all modes of transportation which are the choices of the people of Toronto, including automobiles, public transit, cycling and walking within available corridors. The City has no place to ‘encourage’ or entice people to switch to different forms of transportation from what they regularly use. That is the free choice of the people. The City and the Province are only responsible for providing the facilities for the transportation choices of the people. Neighbourhoods and residential and commercial communities must be left intact to flourish. -

No. 280 Ma y 1975 POWER lor the People Text Photographs B.A. Biglow J.J.Shaughnessy oU could say that Canadian National Railways were a little late in die selizing their pass~nger trains.The Y steam engine was quite economical for the tonnages and speeds prevalent at that time and thus the multipur pose steam power was retained for passenger trains and was also avail able for freight services, in emer gencies. The diesel locomotive models designed exclusively for passenger trains, such as the Es and PAs, were avoided, since the passenger version of the 4-axle freight units had been developed when CN be gan passenger train dieselization. Canadian National further avoided large numbers of carbody- style units by using hood-type road-switchers on secondary branch lines. For mainline trains, the Company bought FP 9 models from Gen eral Motors Diesel Limited of London, Ontario and FPA 2 and FPA 4 mo dels from Montreal Locomotive Works of Montr'al, Canada. After almost twenty' years, only one true FPA 2 unit survives,it being on the St-Hilaire/Montr'al, Qu'bec commuter run, Trains 900/991. This unit wos built with a model 244 prime mover, which model Can adian National found to be unreliable due to water leaks. Four other units, Numbers 6758, 6759, 6658 and 6659 had the model 244 prime movers removed and the model 251 installed, making them equivalent to the FPA 4 model. The prime-mover/generator assemblies removed from these units were used to "re-manufacture" the four units of the RSC 24 model, CN unit Numbers 1800, 1801, 1802 and 1803, rated at 1400 hp., of which there are three surviving today.
