Esta vez, gracias a la gentil invitación de la Asociación de Ingenieros de Minas, Metalurgistas y Geólogos de México, a través del Distrito Durango, brindamos la excursión como una actividad preliminar del 4o Congreso Tendencias de la Actividad Minera en México, que se llevó a cabo en Durango del 24 al 27 de agosto de 2014. Los libretos guía de las excursiones de 2003 y 2014 pueden ser considerados como la segunda y tercer ediciones del libreto guía original de 1997. Una buena parte del texto es el mismo, pero en cada edición nueva se trató de actualizar la primera parte del documento, que es un resumen extenso de lo que se conoce acerca de tema, incorporando los avances hechos en el conocimiento de la geología de la región, que se realizaron entre una edición y otra. Otras diferencias fundamentales entre las tres ediciones son que la primera excursión duró seis días, la segunda se programó para cinco días y la tercera para tres días. Consecuentemente, el número de ODVHVWDFLRQHVGHWUDEDMRR³SDUDGDV´HVGLVWLQWRHQFDGDGRFXPHQWR En esta tercera edición decidimos cambiar ligeramente el título del libreto guía, para hacer énfasis en que una buena parte de las estaciones de los dos primeros días son nuevas y se ubican a lo largo de la nueva autopista de cuota (carretera federal MEX 40D) en donde hay grandes cortes que muestran de manera espectacular muchas de las relaciones discutidas. Así mismo, durante nuestra visita preliminar a las estaciones del 2014 se colectaron muestras de roca para fechamientos de U-Pb, que fueron realizados por L. Ferrari en el Centro de Geociencias de OD81$0/RVUHVXOWDGRVSUHOLPLQDUHVGHHVWRVIHFKDPLHQWRVVHLQFOX\HQ\VXVLJQL¿FDGRVHGLVFXWHHQHOWH[WR Finalmente, todos los guías de la excursión estamos conscientes del posible uso didáctico que tienen los libretos guía. Por este motivo, decidimos que el libreto sería puesto a la disposición del público en inglés y cas- tellano. De esta manera, esperamos que los estudiantes de geología, geólogos profesionales y público en general SXHGDQHPSOHDUOR$~QPiVFDGDXQDGHODVHVWDFLRQHVGHOWLHQHFRRUGHQDGDVJHRJUi¿FDVTXHSXHGHQ programarse en un GPS, lo que facilita la ubicación exacta de las mismas, por lo que la guía puede emplearse de manera independiente, sin necesidad de la presencia de los guías. In the first approach mathematical models and frequency or time domain analysis are carry out to estimate the mean and peak response of interest. In the second approach, scaled section or aerosleatsic models are tested in boundary layer wind tunnels under different types of terrain to calculate the response. If the first approach with frequency domain analysis is adopted, buffeting forces should be characterized. To account for spanwise correlation, a decay function is usually adopted. The main objective of this work is to study the wind-induced response of the tallest cable-stayed bridge in Mexico under partially and fully correlated buffeting forces. For the parametric analyses, a mathematical model of the bridge is developed in Ansys Parametric Design Language (APDL). A harmonic analysis is employed to carry out the buffeting analyses with partially and fully correlated wind forces. The results of the analyses indicate that spanwise correlation affects the peak response of the structure and an evaluation of the amount of correlation should be further study to take it into account in design.

Midway along the course is a 1,200-foot river gorge transited by the world’s highest cable-stayed bridge, Baluarte Bridge. The new thoroughfare, replaced a very dangerous, curling road in a rugged region known as The Devil’s Backbone. Rosales- González1 ABSTRACT Mexico is a country where there is significant seismic activity, therefore any civil structure (such as a bridge) being constructed must consider actions of earthquakes during all stages of design, construction and service life. The newly constructed Baluarte Bridge, located at the border of Durango and Sinaloa states in Mexico, has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest cable-stayed bridge in the world. This paper presents the results of ambient vibration studies conducted on this bridge to determine parameters such as fundamental frequencies of vibration and mode shapes, in order to create a database representing the current state of the bridge that could be used to evaluate the structure after an earthquake occurs. It also presents a comparison of analytical results of a mathematical model developed for this purpose, which is calibrated using records from a permanent monitoring of the bridge superstructure. It is well known, that in most cases, direct measurements from instrumentation is the most effective, reliable, and time efficient mean to monitor the structural integrity of a bridge during and after an earthquake. Instrumentation of a bridge for the purpose of structural health monitoring in correlation with ordinary and extraordinary loads is of great importance when trying to identify, in real time, effects and damages of seismic events.
