You know that story of John the Baptist; the day our Savior left Galilee to tell old John at the River Jordan, “I think it’s time you baptize me!” Now John said, “Lord, your will I’ll follow, I feel the power from heav’n above.” And when he laid him in the water, down came the Spirit, like a dove.

Everybody must go down to the river, everybody must go down to be free. And let that water wash on over, wash away your sins for eternity. For forty days, our Savior wandered, hungry out in the desert sun. When Satan came to tempt his power,

but in the end, the Lord had won. Now we’re all sinners lost in the darkness, and soon we’ll face our judgment day.

You better get right with the Father, or at heaven’s gate you’ll be turned away. Everybody must go down to the river, everybody must go down to be free. OLD TESTAMENT Amos 5:18-24

Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? That day will be darkness, not light. It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him. Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light— pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness? “I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. EPISTLE 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with

Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.

HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 25:1-13

take any oil with them. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen!

Prayer of Thanksgiving

P: O God the Father, the fountain and source of all goodness, who in loving-kindness sent Your only-begotten Son into the flesh, we thank
