• JG: This print is 3rd generation. (Orig.--Neg.-- this print) The print quality should still be good enough to identify people on it. The origional was left at WDSU You may run this print through a projector but DO NOT stop the projector on one frame. Even the best projector will overheat the film and ruin the frame. There are several methods to enlarge the frame: 1 Put the print in an enlarger. Enlarge the frame onto a large size negative and expose the negative by flashing the enlarger light on and off once. Several negatives and exposure times should be used to get the proper exposure. The negative is then processed and enlargements can be made from it and the origional film filed. Several other negatives can be made this way and you can file them in different places. 2 Someone can project the film with a movie projector and photograph the screen (a white card) with a still camera. The movie projector should be set on "silent speed" to slow the film down and the still camera should be set for about 1/30 or 1/50 of a second exposure. The still film is then enlarged for prints. There are other methods and local darkroom men can give advice. If you want more film prints, you can make them from the copy you have. Tell the lab you want an ''OPTICAL" print for best quality. A "CONTACT" print is cheaper but of lower quality. Also, you may have an optical print made in which any frame or frames you choose may be "frozen". You can have these frames frozen for any length of time. This means that the film will run continuously in the projector but when the print is made the printer will repeat certain frames so that they will appear to hold on the screen longer. You can also have a lab in L.A. blow up a 16mm print to a 35mm negative. You can then cut up the 35mm negative for use in an enlarger. The outcome of this proceSs is about the same as the 1st step I mentioned above. Unless you have a good darkroom man working with your print, this last process will produce the best quality. If you need other prints of this film it would be better to make them from - my 2nd generation negative. Just give me a call. JR .

Each inventor added to the progress of other inventors, culminating in progress for the entire art and industry. Often masked in mystery and fable, the beginnings of film and the silent era of motion pictures are usually marked by a stigma of crudeness and naiveté, both on the audience's and filmmakers' parts. However, with the landmark depiction of a train hurtling toward and past the camera, the Lumière Brothers’ 1895 picture “La Sortie de l’Usine Lumière à Lyon” (“Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory”), was only one of a series of simultaneous artistic and technological breakthroughs that began to culminate at the end of the nineteenth century. These triumphs that began with the creation of a machine that captured moving images led to one of the most celebrated and distinctive art forms at the start of the 20th century. Photographic printing From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Photographic printing is the process of producing a final image on paper for viewing, using chemically sensitized paper. The paper is exposed to a photographic negative, a positive transparency (or slide), or a digital image file projected using an enlarger or digital exposure unit such as a LightJet printer. Alternatively, the negative or transparency may be placed atop the paper and directly exposed, creating a contact print. Photographs are more commonly printed on plain paper, for example by a color printer, but this is not considered "photographic printing". Following exposure, the paper is processed to reveal and make permanent the latent image. Printing on black-and-white paper The process consists of four major steps, performed in a photographic darkroom or within an automated photo printing machine. These steps are: Exposure of the image onto the sensitized paper using a contact printer or enlarger; Processing of the latent image using the following chemical process: o Development of the exposed image reduces the silver halide in the latent image to metallic silver; o Stopping development by neutralising, diluting or removing the developing chemicals; o Fixing the image by dissolving undeveloped silver halide from the light-sensitive emulsion: o Washing thoroughly to remove processing chemicals protects the finished print from fading and deterioration. Pinhole Projector
Pinhole Projector I just threw together this little camera obscura for fun. It demonstrates pin- hole optics well, and doesn't require film and developing, so it is very quick from build to demonstration. It might be useful for science education purposes? Other than a teaching tool it has little real purpose other than a fun diversion for a few minutes on a lazy weekend. You can replace the screen with a piece of film and add a shutter to take real pictures if you like, but you'll need to carefully seal all light leaks. In my implementation I used a small piece of Aluminium roof flashing for the pinhole plate. The hole was drilled carefully with the smallest needle that my girlfriend could find in her kit. The larger box was added after the the smaller box proved the concept, but also demonstrated the need for a light shield to give enough contrast to view even bright scenes. The projection screen is greased kitchen wrap paper. The pinhole is about 0.5 mm in diameter and the smaller box is a 100 mm cubic shape, so the effective lens f-number is 200. A fantastically slow lens compared to glass optics, but fairly fast for a pinhole camera. You can enlarge the hole further if you wish to improve the brightness, but the resolution will suffer. Although the image is quite dim, it is acceptable for average daylight scenes out a window. Throwing a piece of dark cloth over your head to seal light leaks around your face helps a lot.
