Our Get Out The Vote Campaign is successful in canvassing Republican registered homes in Harvey Gilbert Rossmoor. We were delighted to find most Republicans were very dedicated to voting President - 2020 during the March California Primary Election. Also noted, were the number of Republicans who revealed that they are intimidated by the Democrats in Rossmoor who outnumber us and make them uncomfortable in expressing their conservative views. Since most Republicans are clear in their views of expressing themselves in support of constitutional values, they also wish to be accepted socially in Rossmoor, and thus tend to keep quiet in most politically mixed groups. It is clear that the other political side is somewhat intolerant of our views. There is currently an invitation for Christine Pelosi (Daughter of Nancy Pelosi and author of the book about the political career of her mother, a career Democratic politician, member of the Democratic National Committee, and works for the Democratic party) to speak at the Rossmoor Women’s Conference and promote the sale of her book. The Women's Conference is sponsored by the Counseling Service of the Rossmoor Foundation which is funded by our Rossmoor General Funds. Many of our members have written the Board of Rossmoor about the questionable policy of bringing highly political figures here under the sponsorship of our non-partisan Rossmoor Foundation. Of course, it is accepted that the Political Clubs are welcome to sponsor politicized speakers, but the Rossmoor General Fund was always expected to be politically neutral. The Counseling Service and Board CEO have responded to the letters sent, and said that she is “just a woman with a successful career” - and do not address our real concerns. Harvey Gilbert CABARET to be shown at 4pm, Wednesday, March 18, 2020, Peacock Room Adapted from the Broadway show, this hard-hitting musical drama is set in a decadent 1930s Berlin during Hitler’s rise to power. The film chronicles Cambridge student Brian Roberts’ friendship with the high-spirted American, Sally Bowles, a singer at the sleazy Kit Kat nightclub. The Nazis’ rise to power is an ever-present undercurrent in the film. This 1972 musical won eight Oscars, among them Bob Fosse won best producer, Lisa Minelli, best actress, Joel Grey, best supporting actor, but it lost best picture to The Godfather. The movie is 124 minutes, rated PG and will have captions. It will be shown on Wednesday, March 18 at 4:00 pm in the Peacock Theater. For more information call Mary Beth Hodge at (925) 954-1158.
