Pareromene senekai sp.n., Euchromius karsholti sp.n.,Me- socrambus canariensis sp.n. and Catoptria mytilella her- mesi ssp.n. are described. Faunistic data on some rare species from the palearctic region are reported. 41 © Entomofauna Ansfelden/Austria; download unter www.biologiezentrum.at This taxonomic and faunistic study is compiled on the basis of material of Crambidae kept at the Zoological Museum Copenhagen and sent to me for study by Dr. Ole KARSHOLT. The Material originates from the Palearctic region, however, it is chiefly from Europe, Saudi Arabia, North India, Lybia, China, the Canary Islands and sepa- rate specimens from Central Asia and Siberia. Three new species, namely Pareromene senekai sp.n., Euchromius karsholti sp.n. and Mesoorambus canariensis sp.n. as well as a new subspecies, Catoptria mytilella hermesi ssp.n., are described as a result of the study. Faunistic data on some rare species from South Europe, Asia and North Africa are reported. The species Catoptria dimorphella (STAUDINGER, 1882), known so far from Spain, Syria, Kreta and Cyprus is reported for the first time from continental Greece - Peloponnesus. I would like to thank my colleague Dr. Ole KARSHOLT for sending me the material. Pareromene senekai sp.n. Diagnosis: Specimens with wing span 12-14 mm. Labial palps 2.5 whitish with black spots. Abstract: Hungarian Euchromius are revised and list of localities is provided. Structure of genitalia and mor- phological characteristics of wings are illustrated by figures. The habitats and Hungarian distribution of the species have been analysed, the latter shown on UTM-grid maps. The study is completed with references on the Hungarian distribution of the species. With 8 figures. Keywords: Lepidoptera, Crambidae, Euchromius, biology, habitat, distribution, Hungary. Introduction The world fauna of genus Euchromius is probably the best known among Crambinae since revisions after BLESZYNSZK I (1965), CAPPS (1966) and SC HOUTEN (1988, 1992). Two species of Euchromius are known to occur in Hungary (FAZEKAS 1996, PASTORÁL I S 2010) and 12 species in Europe (SLAMKA 2008). Knowledge of the biology and geo- graphical range is limited in Hungary. GOZMÁNY (1963) redescribed the diagnostic characters of the Hungarian species, and gave an account of what was known of their biology and distribution. According to SZENT -IVÁNY and UHR I K -MÉSZÁROS (1942), Euchromius superbellus (Zeller, 1849) is a problematical species in Hungary: „In der Sammlung des Naturhistorischen Museums befinden sich 2 Exemplar mit der Fundortsetikette: “Hung. coll. REBEL“ und 1 Exemplar mit dem Fundortszettel: “Hung. ANKER, coll. Rebel.“ GOZMÁNY (1963) showed later that no specimen of Euchromius superbellus is known from the actual territory of Hungary.

  • Rapid Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) For: Euzophera Bigella
Rapid Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) for: Euzophera bigella June 2018 Summary and conclusions of the rapid PRA Euzophera bigella is a moth found in much of Europe and parts of Asia, whose larvae (caterpillars) feed inside a variety of fruit and under the bark of a number of species of tree. Though there have been several adults caught in light traps in the UK, such records are very scarce and there is no evidence this species is established in any part of this country. Following the rapid screening of E. bigella via the UK Plant Health Risk Register, this PRA was requested to further assess the potential risk to the UK. This rapid PRA shows: Risk of entry The pathway of fruit (and nuts) is considered moderately likely, with medium confidence. Larvae have previously been found in imported fruit in the UK. If larvae were able to complete development inside the fruit, emerging adults would be capable of flying off and locating new hosts. The pathway of larvae under the bark of older trees for planting is considered moderately likely, with medium confidence. Larvae under the bark of younger, smaller trees is assessed as unlikely with medium confidence, as infestations produce swellings and cracks in the bark which are more likely to be seen in smaller trees. The pathway of wood with bark is considered unlikely with low confidence. Confidence is low because a different species of Euzophera has recently travelled from the USA to Italy on this pathway. 1 The pathway of natural spread is considered very unlikely with low confidence.

A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains,

Nat. Croat., Vol. 30, No. 1, 37–52, 2021, Zagreb. From 2016 to 2020 numerous surveys were undertaken to improve the knowledge of the pyraloid moth fauna of Biokovo Nature Park. On August 27th, 2020 one specimen of Psorosa mediterranella (Amsel, 1954) from the family Pyralidae was collected on a small meadow (985 m a.s.l.) on Mt Biok- ovo. In this paper, the first data about the occurrence of this species in Croatia are presented. The previ- ous mention in the literature for Croatia was considered to be a misidentification of the past and has thus not been included in the checklist of Croatian pyraloid moth species. P. mediterranella was recorded for the first time in Croatia in recent investigations and, after other additions to the checklist have been counted, is the 396th species in the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. An overview of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia is given in the updated species list. FAUSKEl AND R. D. GUSTIN 2 ABSTRACT. Twenty-seven species of the subfamily Crambinae known as sod web worm moths were collected from South Dakota. A key to species has been included as well as their distribution patterns in South Dakota. This study began after damage to rangeland in several South Dakota counties in the years 1974 and 1975. Damage was reported from Cor son, Dewey, Harding, Haakon, Meade, Perkins, Stanley and Ziebach counties. An effort was made to determine the species of Crambinae present in South Dakota and their distribution. Included are a key for species identification and a list of species with their flight periods and collection sites. MATERIALS AND METHODS Black light traps using the General Electric Fluorescent F ls T8 B1 15 watt bulb were set up in Brookings, Jackson, Lawrence, Minnehaha, Pennington and Spink counties. In Minnehaha County collecting was carried out with a General Electric 200 watt soft-glow bulb. Daytime collecting was used in several localities. Material in the South Dakota State University Collection was also utilized. For each species a map is included showing collection localities by county. C. Lee 1, Stacey J. Anderson2, Lucy T. T. Tran-Nguyen3, Nader Sallam4, Bruno P. Le Ru5,6, Desmond Conlong7,8, Kevin Powell 9, Andrew Ward10 & Andrew Mitchell1 Lepidopteran stemborers are among the most damaging agricultural pests worldwide, able to reduce crop yields by up to 40%. Sugarcane is the world’s most prolifc crop, and several stemborer species from the families Noctuidae, Tortricidae, Crambidae and Pyralidae attack sugarcane. Australia is currently free of the most damaging stemborers, but biosecurity eforts are hampered by the difculty in morphologically distinguishing stemborer species. Here we assess the utility of DNA barcoding in identifying stemborer pest species. We review the current state of the COI barcode sequence library for sugarcane stemborers, assembling a dataset of 1297 sequences from 64 species. Sequences were from specimens collected and identifed in this study, downloaded from BOLD or requested from other authors. We performed species delimitation analyses to assess species diversity and the efectiveness of barcoding in this group. Seven species exhibited <0.03 K2P interspecifc diversity, indicating that diagnostic barcoding will work well in most of the studied taxa. We identifed 24 instances of identifcation errors in the online database, which has hampered unambiguous stemborer identifcation using barcodes. Instances of very high within-species diversity indicate that nuclear markers (e.g. 18S, 28S) and additional morphological data (genitalia dissection of all lineages) are needed to confrm species boundaries.

A total of 173 species is reported here, comprising 97 Crambidae and 76 Pyralidae. Based upon published data, 29 species appear to be new to the fauna of Serbia, 5 species are new to the fauna of Macedonia and 37 are new to the fauna of Albania. The data are discussed.
