A study, aimed at analyzing cassava processing and utilization at household level in Zambia, was conducted. Surveys were conducted in five districts (Kasama, Samfya, Mansa, Serenje and Kaoma). A structured question- naire was administered to a total of 300 randomly selected households. The percentage of households that were involved in processing were 4.3% for income, 34% for consumption and 58% for both income generation and consumption. Levels of awareness and usage of improved cassava processing methods across the districts were low, ranging between 20% and 26%. The only improved processing equipment that farmers used often (69%) was the hammer mill. Product development and utilization were still at a low level (ranging between 9% and 18%) in Zambia. Cassava is mostly consumed in its traditional form for its leaves, as a snack, and for preparing nshima (cassava flour alone or a mixture of cassava and maize meal, called maize-cassava nshima). The limited knowledge of cassava products’ diversity and the low usage of improved equipment are challenges to the production of confectionery products that could lead to increased cassava consumption. There has been no significant change over the last two decades in cassava processing and product development, which could spur cassava development. -

Strengthening the community network for continuum of care Mternl, Newborn nd Child Helth One Stop Service Project in Zmbi 2017 The project revitalized the Local Steering Committee (LSC), which was founded in the neighborhood health committee at each site, comprised of ten members, including health service providers, community leaders, traditional leaders, teachers, SMAGs and Youth PEs. Monitoring and supervision by the District Health Ofce to support community health educational activities involving SMAGs and Youth PEs was strengthened in collaboration with the LSCs and the Adolescent Health Committee. Each site formulated a community action plan for sustainability and started income generation activities such as goat rearing , vegetable cultivation, etc. to secure the cost for maternity waiting house and costs required for continuing community health educational activities. Barry Zambia’s mining sector continued to be dominated by cobalt by 58%; beryl, 53%; emerald, 36%; and cement, 29%. Notable and copper production. In 2016, the country accounted for decreases in production included that of cobalt (Co content of 2.7% and 3.8% of world mined cobalt and copper production, mine production), which decreased by 65%; coal, 45%; refined respectively. Zambia was a leading gemstone producer globally, copper metal, 26%; raw steel, 21%; and manganese (Mn content), particularly of emerald. The country also produced cement, coal, 11%. Additionally, no bismuth was produced in 2016 because the crude steel, semiprecious gemstones, gold, lime, manganese, mineralogy of the copper ore sent to the smelter was different than refined petroleum products, sand and gravel, silver, stone, and that of previous years. Increased production of refined cobalt and sulfur (Flanagan, 2018; Shedd, 2018). copper metal was a result of increased imports of concentrates for processing (table 1; China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Minerals in the National Economy Corporation Ltd., 2017, p. 30).
