Apologies received from Cllrs Stuart Bell, Karl Gasson, Philip Hobson, Stef van den Haak and District Councillor Keith Baker.

Bridget Halford, CCC Tree Warden Co-ordinator, explained about strimmer damage that could be sustained by young trees. Concern had been expressed by the Parish Tree Warden and Bridget Halford about the condition of the line of trees planted along Ermine Street by village volunteers, however the exact damage caused by careless strimming cannot be assessed until all the tree guards are removed and the trees inspected. The Parish Council have informed the contractor, who strimmed around the trees, that the Parish Council would be looking to receive compensation for the damage caused once the cost of remedial action can be assessed.

The Parish Council considered the draft recommendations from the Local Government Boundary Commission for on their Electoral Review of . The Commission recommends a new division boundary to include Parishes of The Stukeleys and Warboys. The Parish Council felt this suggestion did not take account of community interest as it was felt that The Stukeleys’ natural affinity lies with and Brampton, who are the closest neighbours to the Parish. Concern was also expressed that The Stukeleys could become an outlining village due to Warboys, having a much larger population. Also there would be a reduction in County Councillors representing the division from two to one. The Council have requested that the Local Government Boundary Commission look again at the proposal. Residents - if you wish to comment on the proposals please go to www.consultation.lgbce.org.uk by the 6th July.

The Parish Council resolved to fund the broadband connection to the Great Stukeley Village Hall (GSVH) for six months, Little Stukeley Village Hall(LSVH) did not wish to be connected at this present time but any future request from LSVH will be considered by the Parish Council. It was also agreed to fund the purchase of a digital projector, screen and stand for the GSVH as it this could be useful to a number of groups supporting both villages. The provision and funding for a bus shelter in Little Stukeley was discussed, further information on possible funding assistance to be obtained.

The Parish Council discussed the lack of inclusion in the discussions concerning the closure of RAF Alconbury, and resolved to write to The Leader of District Council Councillor Ablewhite expressing the Parish Council’s extreme annoyance and displeasure with the negative response received from HDC. Copies of this letter was also sent to the Hunts Post, Communities Secretary Greg Clerk, RAF Alconbury and our MP Jonathan Djanogly.

The independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is reminding the residents across Cambridgeshire to be aware of doorstep crime during the long days of summer and autumn and to report any suspicious activity. Doorstep criminals typically employ a number of ruses to gain the confidence of victims before defrauding or stealing from them. They will also target the more vulnerable members of our communities.

Between May 2014 and April 2015 there were over 500 instances of suspected rogue trading reported to Cambridgeshire Police.

The most common types of doorstep criminals are those more commonly known as a ‘rogue traders’. These criminals masquerade as genuine businesses and set out to deliberately overcharge for unsatisfactory goods or services.

Typical services preferred by rogue traders are driveway maintenance, pressure-washing, gardening, roofing and guttering.

Rogue traders rarely offer the statutory 14 day cooling off period applicable for work costing more than £42, often insist on large amounts of cash up front and can be intimidating. Once they have found a victim they often return in the future under a new guise.

Another group of doorstep criminals are those who trick their way into victims’ houses with the intention of stealing any valuables they can find within. These ‘distraction burglars’ often pose as workmen who ask to check something in the house and whilst left alone they, or an accomplice, will look for something easy to steal, such as cash, a handbag or jewellery. Among the most common of the excuses offered are needed to check the water supply and searching for a lost pet or ball.

How to deal with unexpected and unwanted visitors on your doorstep

Remember the following 4 principles: LOCK: Ensure you keep exterior doors and windows locked. STOP: Before you answer the door, stop and think whether you are expecting anyone. CHAIN: Put the door bar or chain on. Look through the spyhole or the window to see who it is. Always keep the bar or chain on while you are talking to the person on the doorstep. CHECK: Ask for and carefully check the caller’s ID card as all genuine callers will always carry one. If they do not have an ID card then do not let them in

Doorstep callers are adept at high pressure sales techniques. They will catch you unawares. They are polite, persistent and persuasive and they will rush you to make a decision. Say "No thank you" and then immediately close the door. Always get three quotes from recommended traders before you go ahead with home maintenance work.

There are few better crime prevention measures than having good neighbours. If you live close to an elderly or vulnerable person you can volunteer to be a Nominated Neighbour. This is an informal Trading Standards scheme whereby if a vulnerable person receives an unexpected caller they can immediately direct them to a trusted neighbour. Details as to how to set up a scheme can be found at www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/ncwinfo. 6 Good neighbours can also assist with reporting any suspicious activity in the local community and this is where Crimestoppers can assist as it allows the public to report crime or suspicious activity completely anonymously any time of the day or night. Cambridgeshire Crimestoppers are keen to gather information to enable the police and Trading Standards to investigate and prevent doorstep crime. Local Chairperson Lisa Oddy states: “Doorstep crime victimises the most vulnerable members of the community and we want to put a stop to it in Cambridgeshire. If you know of anyone undertaking such activity or have seen suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighbourhood please let us know, completely anonymously, so together we can tackle this criminality.”

If you have any information about crime or criminals, please call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. No one will ever know who you are. Individuals can also pass on information anonymously via the Crimestoppers website at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. 10 Letter to the Editor Dear Editor, Bumbling Bob rumbles on.....

I note that in the June Stukeleys Magazine, your correspondent from that far away urban metropolis of Godmanchester is bored with reading about the minutiae of village life in Great and Little Stukeley. Personally, having been brought up in a dreary anonymous west London suburb, I revel in living in a small community and what goes on here and look forward to reading the various reports of activities and goings-on in our villages.

Be that as it may, one point needs to be corrected. You, as Editor of the magazine, do not have a "committee" whether "blinkered" or not. There may be some who are under the impression that somehow the Parish Council has blocked the Bumbling Bob column.

Not so

All that has happened is that some residents have spoken to a number of parish councillors indicating that they did not think the content of the column sometimes suitable for inclusion in a local village publication. Some parish councillors themselves may have agreed. However, the Parish Council has made it perfectly clear that the decision as to what goes in the magazine - or not - is entirely vested with our very able and much appreciated Editor, and that the Parish Council has not and does NOT WISH to have any editorial control.

If free speech is the issue, then we must defend the right of those who wish to criticise those who write in publications.

Furthermore, it is the responsibility of parish councillors to listen to concerns and to pass that information on.

Personally, as many of you will know, I do not share Bob's liberal-ophobic views and so I avoid the Daily Mail on health grounds, but that has nothing to do with The Stukeleys Magazine and its contents!

Alan White presents some of the earliest and clearest home phonograph recordings known to survive. They were recorded between 1902 and 1917 by his grandfather Cromwell Wall (1866-1937), a civil engineer living in the new North London suburb of New Southgate. The recordings include hymns, popular songs, musical pieces and talking and laughter during various family gatherings. A window is opened onto the past and something of the first part of the 20th Century is heard as Alan projects pictures of his family members and talks about them.

On the evening of 17th June over 40 members, friends and residents from our two village visited the Incubator Building on Alconbury Weald to hear more about the plans for the site and update on progress. We learned that the first phase of housing should start to be constructed towards the end of the year and this will include the first primary school on the site. Although there had been a short period of drizzle beforehand, visibility from the tower meeting room and the roof terrace was pretty good and we enjoyed seeing the whole site and spotting landmarks around and beyond our parish. Many thanks to Rebecca Britton of Urban&Civic for organising the event and talking us through the site's progress. Thanks also to Urban&Civic for providing excellent refreshments.

Personally, I would like to thank all those who came and made it worthwhile; it was good to see so many there. Next Meeting:

15 2015 Race Bob (AKA John Rea)

Alconbury School Dr Lasman with Evan Hoskins Winning School Team winner of the 3k and record holder. Record breaking runner numbers for sixth Cook Italian Hunts 10k Over 850 people took part in the three Hunts 10k races on Sunday, making its sixth year the most successful ever, strongly supported as always by Stukeley residents. Every finisher in the 10k, 3k races and 1k Fun Run received a medal for their achievements at Alconbury Weald on Father's Day. Organised by the Hunts 10k Charitable Trust, in partnership with BRJ Run and Tri, the event raised money to support local charitable projects. Marie Curie; Suffolk and Cambridgeshire SERV; RNIB reading services; Ormiston Families Home-Start Cambridgeshire; Huntingdonshire Society for the Blind and Godmanchester Rovers Youth FC will all receive a share of the race profits to help their work in and around Huntingdonshire. The 10k race was set off by Rebecca Griffiths, who has formed Team Bex to raise funds for Huntingdon Community Cancer Network, which has treated her for bowel and liver cancer. Team Bex runners completed the 10k and 3k races. 16 Steven Robinson, from Peterborough AC, won the 10k race in a time of 34:47. Chris Darling was a close second in 34:51 and Jamie Hall, part of Team Luminus, finished third in 34:56. Team Luminus also lifted the 10k team trophy. Samantha Fiske from Team Breheny was the first female 10k finisher in 41:53. Kirsty McKenzie was second and Siobhan Dockerill of Haverill Running Club was third. Brampton Village Primary School was coached to two victories by Stukeleys resident Paula Elliott and lifted both the 3k and the 1k Fun Run school team prizes. Young Lauren Elliott (BRJ Juniors) was second in the 3k 8-12 years category, finishing in 12:16. Tom Waterworth, aged seven, was the first male over the 1k Fun Run finish line. Isobelle Moore, aged eight, was the first female. The 1k Fun Run team prize (non-schools) went to Godmanchester Rovers Youth FC, which is among this year's Hunts 10k supported charities. Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly completed the 10k course in a respectable 57:39. Hunts 10k’s own mascot Race Bob joined the fun runners and was on hand to encourage people crossing the 3k and 10k finish lines too. Race Director Bob Hulstrom said: “In the last five years, Hunts 10k Charitable Trust has handed out over £50k to help get people of all ages active. Everyone who entered has helped to boost our charity fund raising total and lots of people were running for their own good causes too, which is fantastic. "Staging an event of this size is expensive. It is thanks to the support we have from local residents and our sponsors - particularly Cook Italian, Alconbury Weald, Huntingdon Audi - that we can make Hunts 10k the great charity fund raiser it has become. We continue to be grateful to Great Stukeley Village Hall for loaning us tables and chairs which we would otherwise have to hire, adding to our costs. "Stukeleys residents do so much as willing volunteer marshalls, cheering on runners and supporting our spectator village. On behalf of the small band of volunteers which organise this event, I thank you. Hunts10k would be impossible without your generosity and commitment." 19 OXFORD and the ISIS and IFFLEY CRUISE - Tuesday 15th September 2015 LAST FEW SEATS AVAILABLE: CALL SOON The University of Oxford (informally Oxford University or just Oxford) is a collegiate research university located in Oxford. With no known date of foundation there is evidence of teaching as far back as 1096 making Oxford the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world’s second oldest surviving university. Oxford grew rapidly from 1167 when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris. Following disputes between students and Oxford townsfolk in 1209 some academics fled northeast to Cambridge where they established what Cambridge University became. In 1188 the historian, Gerald of Wales, gave a public reading to the assembled Oxford Dons and around 1190 the arrival of Elmo of Friesland was the first overseas student setting in motion the University’s tradition of international scholarly links. By 1201 the University was headed by a Magister Scolarum Exonie, and in 1231 the Masters were recognized as a Universitas or corporation. On Tuesday 15th September 2015 we will depart in our Kiddles Coach at 08.15am meeting up with our Blue Badge Holder Guide, Marion Bacon, as we approach the City of Oxford at 10.15am.After morning refreshments at the historic King’s Arms Pub we will take a short stroll through the City ending up inside an Oxford College giving us an insight into academic life. Thursford Christmas Spectacular 2015 - Sunday 15th November 2015 Thirty-five years ago there was a small collection of steam traction engines at Thursford. In those days George Cushing was showing this collection in a muddy farmyard and was delighted with his latest find - a Mighty Wurlitzer Organ - which he set up in his barn. The organ joined the full-sized Carousel which George had restored to working order. George, and his son John, built this small collection into an annual million pound tourist attraction and set up one of the most exciting Christmas Spectacular shows-ever! George died in 2003 at the age of 99 having seen his dream come true. Thursford is recognized as THE MOST POPULAR Christmas show of all time in Great Britain. It features on TV and is a blend of exciting Christmas entertainment with Christmas songs, carols, dazzling dancers, beautiful costumes and outstanding music and singing on a stage 140 feet wide with a cast of over one hundred and thirty. 20 On Sunday 15th November 2015 my fifty-two strong group will be making their journey over to Fakenham to attend this year’s superb show starting at 2pm. All our tickets arrived safely on Thursday 21st May 2015 following my letter a few days earlier with my cheque. The price of this year’s show is £ 52.00 per person including superb stall seats, the coach to and from Thursford and a tip for our Kiddles Coach driver. The First church I was asked to Pastor was in a very small village in Sussex called Nepcote. It nestled in the folds of the South Downs close to the A24 north of Worthing. The Chapel was in the village to the east of the road and the C of E o n the west side of the A24 A very busy road from Worthing to London and never the twain to meet. At the same time as I took on the work of the roll of Pastor, The Rev Cannon Eric Gillies came to the C of E After a short time he sent me a letter asking me to meet Him at the Vicarage that was the start of 3years of the 2 churches working together swapping Pulpits and holding a mission week. At the time of my moving on to another, Church Eric came to my farewell service as He was asked to say a few words during the service, He called me his friend because we called each other by our Christian names. It took A mature Man and a young Man to put aside our Differences, and fellowship on the things we agree on and That is Jesus as the Son of God sent to save us From our Sins, and I believe that’s what Jesus meant by us all being a part of the Christ as in 1 or 12: 27. It would be good if this was always the way it worked. Bless you all Pastor Pete 29 CHURCH SERVICES
