Saltford Road Works

Government policy is to hand over full responsibility for certain major roads to the local authority, a move which B&NES has been contesting for some time.

On 22 March, InterRoute, sponsored by the Highway Agency, called a meeting to discuss construction tactics. They invited various Road Users, businesses and local bodies, which included 2 SCA members representing villagers, to give their views about the scheme and its problems.

• The scheme will cost £ 1.5 million. • It will commence at the Globe roundabout and terminate at Grange Road. • Many thousands of tons of material will be shifted daily and therefore any en-route traffic lights will not be acceptable. • The whole section wi" be Gated and ONLY buses and emergency services will have linear access. • ALL other traffic will be diverted but access for residents and businesses will be maintained except for 6 weekends when the final road coat is being laid. • There are 3 options with regard to the construction programme; 1. 9 weeks duration 2. 12 weeks duration 3. 19 weeks duration • The representatives were unanimously in favour of Option 1 • This means that July, August and September are going to be a difficult period for a" Bath Road users.

We were also informed that more information would be made public in due course and that householders wi" be individually contacted. In the mean time, please do not contact SCA representatives.
