But in essence it is the “development that meets the needs and aspirations of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (WCED, 1987). Religion What is religion? Is Religion an illusion, is it science, or is it a personal experience? How to define it when we have such variety of religions? What common traits, if any, might be said to exist not only between the ‘Abrahamic’ traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, but also between these and Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Sikhism, Shinto and tribal or aboriginal religions (Thiselton, 2006)? There does not seem to be an easy answer but that does not stop us from speaking about religion. Religion is man’s involvement in the meaning of existence, and the depth of one’s involvement
