BlazeSports America, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the legacy of the 1996 Paralympic Games. Our mission is to change the lives of children and veterans with physical disabilities through adaptive sports.

We offer a variety of sport and recreation programs for kids and veterans with physical disabilities. These include spina bifida, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, amputations and visual impairments, among others.

All of our programs provide participants the opportunities to increase physical activity, create new friendships, develop new skills and increase independence. We serve a wide range of ability levels from recreational beginner to competitive Paralympians.

As the legacy organization of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, we carry on the tradition of quality programming, experienced and knowledgeable staff, and the best practices within adaptive sport.

The BlazeSports America Jr. Wheelchair Hawks Basketball program is one of the nation’s fastest growing and most successful youth wheelchair basketball programs.

Youth athletes can participate in this seven-month sports program and be a part of the BlazeSports Atlanta Jr. Hawks Wheelchair Basketball team, part of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA).

Our program includes skills clinics, leadership training, academic support, strength and conditioning and guidance on healthy eating.

The BlazeSports Youth Adaptive Archery Program is designed for boys and girls ages 9-22 and has something for everyone from the beginner to more advanced archer. This unique program is designed to build self-esteem while developing participants skills in sportsmanship and archery.

No experience is necessary! BlazeSports Archer - Coach Patricia Bowen is a Certified Level II USA Archery Instructor and an adaptive archer herself. ADAPTIVE SOCCER CLINIC BlazeSports America is proud to partner with the City of Roswell to bring our athletes this exciting new Ambulatory Soccer Clinic for boys and girls ages 6 -22.

The BlazeSports America Ambulatory Soccer Clinic, is designed to teach the “ins and outs” of ambulatory soccer. The BlazeSports Institute for Applied Science is now the BlazeSports America Institute for Adaptive Sports and Recreation™ – functioning as both a curriculum and independent process of review, evaluation and credentialing at all levels of engagement in adaptive sports and recreation programming for service providers, volunteers, coaches, students and other related practitioners.

In September 2017, the BlazeSports Institute will announce the expansion and update of our curriculum and continuing studies certification program. With this expansion, the BlazeSports Institute will offer a wider array of opportunities for adaptive sports education through a variety of learning formats (online & classroom), access to a wider pool of resources including webinars & podcasts, newsletters with updates on the latest research, trends and best practices in the field.

BlazeSports Institute’s goal:

l To build the capacity of community-based practitioners to provide adaptive sport and physical activity programs for individuals with physical disabilities. UPDATED CERTIFICATION PROGRAM The BlazeSports Institute is updating our adaptive sports certification program. The Certified Disability Sports Specialist credential will be updated as Certified Adaptive Recreation and Sports Specialist (CARSS)™. CARSS will replace the current Certified Disability Sport Specialist certification (CDSS) to reflect more accurately where the field has evolved. CARSS was developed by BlazeSports America with the expertise and input of a wide-range of professionals in the adaptive sports field.

The goal of the updated CARSS certification program is to even better prepare those new to adaptive sports and recreation, as well as increase the knowledge and core competencies of adaptive sports professionals currently working in the field. The updated CARSS certification program highlights the most relevant, practical information for developing and implementing successful adaptive sports and recreation programs for Youth, Adults and Veterans with various physical disabilities.
