By BRIAN A. HOWEY - For the first time in Hoosier history, when Jill Long Thomp- son addresses the Indiana Democratic Convention around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, she will become the first female nominee, following the footsteps of other gender pioneers like Virginia Dill McCarty, Ann DeLaney and Vi Simpson. She will greet a convention with the theme “Restoring Indiana’s Promises” along with her new running mate, State Rep. Dennie Oxley. The campaign hopes it closes a controversial and unsettled period for Indiana Democrats. The state party and much of the establishment backed Jim Schellinger’s gubernatorial bid. The six weeks since her primary victory has offered an array of mixed signals. The Jill Long Thompson with State Rep. Dennie Oxley and his wife, Jayme, at the State- campaign had house on Monday.
