~ 702 Woodlark Building ,_ Portland, Oregon ~CKS GULCH C n.:rs (Llercury & -)---- UPPER J,.PPLEG_;T~ 1.R.El~ O\vners: Russell Mitchell and D. A. tlright, Jacksonville, Oreg.

Location: ~ ... l¼ NE~ sec. 17, T. 40 S., R. 4 'l ., west of Brush Or., a tributary of Carberry Cr. Elev. 3400 feet. ,.rea: Two claims. History: The vein opening was made in 1917 by a man who "doodle-bugged" the locality for gol<:1,. No work was done on the property.

Development: Five small open cuts. The largest is about 50 ft. l+ong The scheelite vein is opened for a length of 5 feet and a width of 3 feet. Geology: Country rock is metavolcanic, of the 1.pplegate (Paleozoic?) series of the Gr&nts Fass geologic map. Heavy brush and soil cover obscures practically all outcrops. One outcrop of a sheared py.roclastic, metamorphosed, showed the schistocity trend as N. 35 E., ·with a N.Vl. dip at a high angle. The metavolcanic rock is deeply ·weathered and stained. Cinnabar is present is portions of the metavolcanic rock, but no evidence of concentration was noted. All cuts showed some cinnabar but the grade is low. (1-2 lb.) Cinnabar seen is present on planes as sme rs or "paint". It is present in the wall rock at the scheelite vein. Scheelite occurs in a vein that is 3 feet wide, and is exposed for a length of 5 feet. The vein or shear zone has well defined walls and seems to be sheared metavolcanic rock. The vein strike is E-,f and dips due south 70°. Good scheelite "strings" can be obtained by panning. Ray c. MOCKS GULCH PROSPECT (7) General

The Mocks Gulch prospect is located at an elevation of J,400 feet in the SW¼ NE¼ sec. 17 , T. 40 s., R. 4 W,, Jackson County. The prospect is west of Brush Creek, a tribu tary of Carberry Creek in the Upper Applegate area,

The property has been prospected for both cinnabar and scheelite, Development work consists of 5 small open cuts. The largest of these is 50 feet in length. The only oc currence of scheelite is in a small out which was opened in 1917.

Geology The prospect is located in deeply weathered metavoloanio rocks of the Applegate group. No granitic intrusives are exposed in the immediate area; however, there is a small diorite intrusive approximately 2 miles to the southeast near Steamboat. The large Gray back Mountain granitic stock is located about 4 miles west of the prospect, Soheelite occurs in a well-defined shear zone in the metavoloanio rooks striking east and dipping about 70° S, The zone is J feet wide and has been opened tor only 5 feet along the strike, Cinnabar occurs 1n the wall rook of the zone and has been noted 1n small amounts elsewhere •======o,,,n....,.t_h_e"""._r_o....,.;.er-'-ty"--",= o=c=o=u_r=r=1~n...;.g=---a_l~o~ng--=--_r_r_a_o_t_u~r ~e_.:.p_l_a_n_e_s_ 1_n_ t_h_e_ m_e_t~a_v_o_l_c_a_n_i _o_ r_o_o_k_s~·=====~-='----"----.J
