A. tlright, Jacksonville, Oreg. Location: ~ ... l¼ NE~ sec. 17, T. 40 S., R. 4 'l ., west of Brush Or., a tributary of Carberry Cr. Elev. 3400 feet. ,.rea: Two claims. History: The scheelite vein opening was made in 1917 by a man who "doodle-bugged" the locality for gol<:1,. No work was done on the property. Development: Five small open cuts. The largest is about 50 ft. l+ong The scheelite vein is opened for a length of 5 feet and a width of 3 feet. Geology: Country rock is metavolcanic, of the 1.pplegate (Paleozoic?) series of the Gr&nts Fass geologic map. Heavy brush and soil cover obscures practically all outcrops. One outcrop of a sheared py.roclastic, metamorphosed, showed the schistocity trend as N. 35 E., ·with a N.Vl. dip at a high angle. The metavolcanic rock is deeply ·weathered and iron stained. Cinnabar is present is portions of the metavolcanic rock, but no evidence of concentration was noted. All cuts showed some cinnabar but the grade is low. (1-2 lb.) Cinnabar seen is present on fracture planes as sme rs or "paint". It is present in the wall rock at the scheelite vein. Scheelite occurs in a vein that is 3 feet wide, and is exposed for a length of 5 feet. The vein or shear zone has well defined walls and seems to be sheared metavolcanic rock. The vein strike is E-,f and dips due south 70°. Good scheelite "strings" can be obtained by panning. Ray c. Treasher, Field Geologist, March 11, 1941.
