Maryam Mustapha Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Legacy initiative (MMAWT) 11 AGRICULTURE Agricultural Productivity and Food Security

FOOD SECURITY Agriculture is important to the development of any nation, Nigeria being no exception. Development must include the youth and therefore MMAWT legacy Initiative seeks to encourage their participation in the agricultural sector. This effort is driven to change the negative perception of the youth and women especially so we can have their participation in agriculture denouncing the notion that (farmers or farming) is projected and perceived as a job for the uneducated, unskilled, physical labourers with extremely low economic return. We enlighten them on Modern agriculture as more than just tilling the soil and rearing/breeding of animals.

BACK TO FARM PROJECT The initiative’s back to Farm Project has the objective of: Making youth accept farming as a commercial business venture;Generate appreciable income to meet farmers domestic and personal needs;Youth will improve their standard of living through improved income. The project has (4) components namely: Ÿ Crops / Block Farm Ÿ Livestock and Poultry Ÿ Fisheries/Aquaculture and Ÿ Agribusiness

Maryam Mustapha Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Legacy initiative (MMAWT) 12 ...AGRICULTURE

INCENTIVES The sector today offers career opportunities in research, environment, nancial management, engineering and other technical areas for the them to explore and empower their livelihood by creating job and wealth creation. MMAWT legacy Initiative is planning to encourage the youth and women back to Farm through the provision of soft agricultural loans, trainings on modern agricultural techniques and support in acquiring and clearing farmlands by the beneciaries.

WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE INITIATIVE The crucial role that women and girls play in ensuring the sustainability of rural households and communities, improving rural livelihoods and overall wellbeing, has been increasingly recognized. Women account for a substantial proportion of the agricultural labour force, including informal work, and perform the bulk of unpaid care and domestic work within families and households in rural areas. They make signicant contributions to agricultural production, food security and nutrition, land and natural resource management, and building climate resilience.

It is in this view, that MMAWT legacy Initiative tailored a programme that will introduce the rural women who are already into farming to other aspects of agriculture in order to maximize the benets they derive from their labour.
