The Minnesota Brittany Club ventured into the realm of doing two Specialties in one day. The outcome was beyond expectations. We had the best showing in years and had exhibitors from all over the country. A big thank you to all those who supported the shows. Also a huge thanks to the many people who put in so much work helping put on the show and our Annual Pot Luck and Raffle. The weather was a bit warmer than most wanted for showing, but the sun was out and all had a good time. Special thanks to Purina for their continued support of our show. 10 ABC Summer Specialty Show

The ABC Summer specialty show was hosted this year by the Central New England Brittany Club. It was held at the Big E in Springfield MA on August 25th in conjunction with the Newtown KC. Sweeps was judged by breeder judge Sue Lehosky Thank you Sue! Our breed judge was Mr. Terry Stacy a long time all-breed judge with a special place in his heart for our breed. This was quite the undertaking in a very short period of time but between 3 club’s CNEBC, NNEBC & HVBC we managed to pull of 4 specialty shows in 4 days. I want to thank each and every one of you who helped make this event a success. It takes a village and we have a great one in here the north east. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the events with your entries, sponsored prizes and gracious donations for the raffle and Best in Sweepstakes or state baskets. CH HOPE’S CRUISING THE FAST LANE A special shout out to Isle of Dogs, and Mommas Cookies, Diane Hedstrom, Donna Wilshire for the great prizes! Also to Chris Ward Webber for your awesome design for our shirts! Congratulations to all of the winners at the 2018 ABC Summer Specialty from the Central New England Brittany Club!

Judges: Paul Arcand and Lisa Pollock The 2018 American Brittany Club Grouse/Woodcock Classic White Rock Ranch’s First Turks “Turk” (Mike Tiberii). Both Scout and was hosted by The Brittany Club of Upper NY on Sept. 16. Located at Turk broke away headed to the front and quickly out at the limits of their Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area in Berne, NY bells. With far-reaching application both dogs are often at the limits of Judges: Pat Carney (Danvers, MA) & George Habecker (Blakeslee, PA) their bells or beyond with handlers scrambling to keep up as we breezed Special thanks to sponsors Garmin and Purina. Many thanks by some likely looking cover. At 10 a gallery grouse lifted with neither dog to our judges for expertly following and judging these special dogs. I’d involved. Finally at 40, following a lengthy absence, Turk was leashed. particularly like to thank Pat Carney for also taking excellent notes and Scout was to the front with judge Habecker. Judge was impressed with providing the brace by brace write-up. Scout’s application and work ethic between about 28-45 minutes, but It was a little too warm and tough for the dogs to get birds these efforts were not rewarded. After 50, a stand with several relocation pointed, but it wasn’t for lack of trying. They sure covered some ground! attempts also came up empty-handed. Bird count: 1 grouse. Camaraderie was high and great meals were provided by the club. We Brace 3: La Bandita Del Prado “Bandit” (Les Casselberry) had some new folks this year who made the jump from horseback field and Diamond Hill Storm Cat “Storm” (Lisa Pollock). Bandita and trials to the grouse woods. “I’ll be back!!!” If you’ve never tested your Storm broke away to the front ready for a day’s work, with Bandita dog in this type of venue, you really should. Wild birds..that’s what it’s all stretching the furthest. At 10, Lisa called point for Storm standing just off about! the trail to the left with Bandita coming in for a back. Unable to produce Brace 1: Contessa Del Prado “Tessa” (Les Casselberry) a bird, Lisa tapped Storm on for a possible relocation, which ultimately and MJ’s Sweet Sugar Magnolia “Maggie” (Mike Dally). At 4, Tessa ended with a non-productive. At the 20-minute mark Storm started is at the limits of her bell, attacking the course with wild abandon, often reaching further while continuing to cover both sides of the course with beyond bell range. Maggie is the closer of the two working both sides workmanlike precision. Bandita meanwhile has been hammering the of the course ahead of us. Both Tessa and Maggie aren’t having any course farther out. At 30, Lisa called point again, which concluded with trouble handling the cover. At 12 with the course making a left-hand another non-productive. Les continued on with Bandita, who at 35 has turn, and not hearing Tessa’s bell, Les sent a scout out looking for her. lost some of her starting bounce, while still making nice wide casts Mike continued on with Maggie. Six minutes later the front was reporting through the cover. Time ran out without further bird contact for either dog, they had contact with Tessa. At 23 we have both dogs working the although a grouse lifted just after time. Bird count: 1 grouse. cover on the left side of the course, Tessa at the limit of her bell and Brace 4: Diamond Hill Work Hard Play Harder “Gin” (Lisa Maggie working diligently back and forth. At 33, Maggie had a somewhat Pollock) and Birch Hill Hobo “Colby” (Paul Arcand). Gin and Colby unmannerly contact with a grouse and was ordered up. Tessa, now proved to be the brace of the day with both dogs attacking the course more controlled with her run, was found standing, but Les’s flushing right from the start. Gin’s first foray into the upland game world appeared attempt and the relocation a minute later proved to be fruitless. The to be very much to her liking. Her gait was strong, sure and powerful brace ended at time with no further bird contact. Bird count: 1 grouse. and she seemed to understand that any birds to be had would be in the Brace 2: Burning Glen Encore “Scout “(Mike Mercanti) and cover and not on the trail. Colby proved to be a worthy bracemate to

27 Gin, demonstrating a practiced familiarity with his approach and attack to show for it. Just at time, Maddie’s bell stopped and judge Carney of the cover as he searched for the ever-elusive grouse. Both Gin and instructed the handler to produce his dog, hopefully standing a bird. It Colby continued to impress during their hour on the ground with forward took some time to get to her and when John was unable to produce a ground-covering races through the cover, in spite of a problematic off- bird, he sent her on for a relocation. Maddie worked her heart out, but course ending that resulted in the judges adding additional time to the a bird was not in the cards this time. With a well-handled find, judges brace to compensate for the five minutes that handlers were not able to would have named either of these dogs champion. Bird count: 1 grouse. show their dogs to advantage. With a well-handled find, judges would Brace 7: Boudreaux’s Game On Dude “Trooper”r(Ed have named either of these dogs champion. Bird count: 0. Kostka) and Reidyhill’s Smokin Hot Pursuit “Beef” (Paul Arcand). Brace 5: Spring Hill’s Chica Del Prado “Chica” (Les One minute after the start, Ed reported a grouse lifting from the cover Casselberry) and Saradac’s Dangerous Diamond Caper “Caper” with no dogs involved. At about 10, Paul got hung up with Beef while Ed (Darlene Dow). Chica and Caper were well in hand throughout their pressed on with Trooper. Paul was unable to regain the front with Beef, hour, with Chica somewhat unwilling to respond to direction from Les. who was well off course, and elected to retire before the hour was up. At Judges were looking for more run than these two provided. At the end of 13 another bird lifted from the cover to our right with Trooper uninvolved the course across the road, just after time, Chica’s bell stopped and then and missing the opportunity to get a bird pointed. And at the road a grouse was heard lifting. Bird count: 1 grouse. crossing, a grouse lifted wild from the cover at the end of the road as we Brace 6: Kahlua III “ Kallie” (Mike Tiberii) and Kip’s Bay all crossed. The hour ended without further bird contact. Bird count: 3 Dark’N Stormy Miss Maddie “Maddie” (John Kipp). For some reason, grouse. the breakaway was an inspiring and exciting experience for this pair. Both were running the course and hitting the cover with happy hearts 2018 ABC Grouse/Woodcock Classic/Championship and well-applied feet. As always, Maddie presented with her usual stylish Grand Open Limited Gun Dog 1hr(14S) and impressive ground race and Kallie was doing a great job keeping up. J: Patricia Carney & George Habecker These two were almost up to par on the ground with Brace 4 and were 1-4 - Withheld impressing the judges as well. This continued for the hour with nothing

PLEASE NOTIFY both the Publisher and the Executive Secretary of any changes in Club Secretaries or Websites. MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN BRITTANY CLUB Give the gift of a new membership… to give the opportunity to someone to learn about and participate in the American Brittany Club. This membership campaign is really quite simple, we are asking every member to donate/sponsor a membership in the American Brittany Club. This “gifted” membership might be to a puppy purchaser, or a friend/acquaintance who has a Brittany. All of us encounter people who may just need a little encouragement to become members. This can work, but it is totally dependent upon your support. Please use the ABC application form in the back of the magazine to enroll a new member today. You may donate/sponsor multiple new memberships. The names of new members & ABC sponsors will be published in the magazine on a quarterly basis. THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! 44 Listings: Breeders • Kennels • At Stud • Trainers & Handlers The below listings of Breeders, Kennels, At Stud and Trainers & Handlers does not constitute an endorsement by the American Brittany Club.
