There are several ways this could go badly: Soulless Shell: The loved one comes back, but without their soul. Damaged Soul: Both the body and the soul come back, but the soul suffered some damage along the way, often leading to madness, depression or sociopathy. Monster from Beyond the Veil: Something goes really wrong, and the loved one comes back as an undead, demonic or Eldritch Abomination that now wants to kill/eat their resurrector. Inhuman Human: The person's soul comes back just fine. The body, on the other hand, is a complete mess, with bad results for both the person and the resurrector. Destination Host Unreachable: The body comes back, and the soul comes back, but the person can never see the resurrector again due to being shunted off somewhere/when else. Often falls under Equivalent Exchange explaining why it doesn't work. Other times a Fantastic Aesop behind why those who've had Death by Origin Story can't come back. If Only Mostly Dead has also been used or the setting includes powerful White Magic, it can seem like Sour Grapes. Sometimes this can happen even in a universe where coming Back from the Dead can be done without incident, if the resurrection's not performed competently, done without important supplies, or intentionally sabotaged. Sometimes a Zombie Apocalypse can be a Came Back Wrong on a massive scale. Most examples fall into one of the above-listed subtypes. By Steve Sternberg For American television viewers, the start of the new primetime television season is still four months away. For insiders at media agencies, networks, and advertisers, however, the Upfront season is placing thoughts of September squarely into May. Of course, the very idea of a fall TV season in today’s video world seems old fashioned. The broadcast networks might still adhere to fall and mid-season schedules for debuting new shows, but their competitors do not. Ad-supported cable networks premiere many new series when the broadcast nets are airing repeats and some limited-run series (mostly non-sweeps months and the summer). Premium cable networks, such as HBO, Showtime, and Starz, air new shows throughout the year. Streaming services, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, release full seasons of new series whenever they happen to be ready. CBS All Access does as well, although it releases new episodes on a weekly schedule, rather than all at once. Unfolding Verse: Poetry As Correspondence In Early Modern England Abstract This project recovers a forgotten history of Renaissance poetry as mail. At a time when trends in English print publication and manuscript dissemination were making lyric verse more accessible to a reading public than ever before, writers and correspondents created poetic objects designed to reach individual postal recipients. Drawing on extensive archival research, “Unfolding Verse” examines versions of popular poems by John Donne, Ben Jonson, Mary Wroth, and others which look little like “literature.” Rather, these verses bear salutations, addresses, folds, wax seals, and other signs of transmission through the informal postal networks of early modern England.
