It is anticipated that young people will be able start on the first steps towards a career in the fashion industry. Participants will learn skills and techniques associated with designing and making garments and will focus on creating a collection as well as staging of catwalk shows.

Evaluation: 'A' Team Arts received funding in 2006 for its summer programme and a monitoring visit observed 16 young women taking part in a fashion and textiles programme, some of whom reported that it will be a stepping stone to pursuing a course in fashion. They had also learnt about Islamic and Asian art.

This 2007 programme has been inspired by the commemorative events to mark 200 years of the abolition of transatlantic slavery.

The project will run for a total of 4 weeks (5 days a week). The estimated total budget including in kind support and revenue from room hire and LBTH Lifelong Learning is £13,655. 'A' Team Arts seeks a total grant of £2,000.

Level of Young people’s involvement in planning and service delivery: The programme has been developed after consultations with young people that attend the youth club. Young people are consulted throughout the programme, with feedback at the end of the sessions, week and programme.

The summer programme is intended to give them confidence, new skills and support their creativity. It will help them begin a project from beginning to end and allow them to explore their ability to develop projects in their entirety and to do so on their own. There will also be a requirement to share skills.

Evaluation: Alpha Grove received a grant for its summer activities in 2006. Feedback from the organisation indicated that young people found the group discussions very interesting, especially when the topic for discussion involves sports activities or day trips.

For 2007 Alpha Grove will be working with young people mainly from the Barkantine estate, many of whom its states are at risk of offending.

The project will run for a total of 6 weeks (5 days a week). The estimated total budget including in kind support is £2,765. The request is for a total of £1,750.

The project states that from its experiences and from the discussions with young people they prefer this project to be gender divided. The organisation will target young people with behaviour problem and those at the risk of antisocial behaviour and with an experience of bullying.

The project will run for a total of 2 weeks (3 days a week). The estimated total budget including funding from Ocean NDC is £1,500. The request is for a total grant of £900.

It is anticipated that the overall benefit to young people will be the experience they gain from enjoying summer activities in a safe and non intimidating environment, and also developing confidence and independence in engaging in outdoor activities.

Evaluation: Bow Bengali Forum received summer project funding in 2006 and noted in its monitoring returns that the summer project had given a unique chance and opportunity to children of deprived and disadvantaged background to participate in activities and visit places which otherwise they would not be able to access.

Evaluation: Amaal Women/Girl's Project received funding for its summer project in 2006. A monitoring visit observed 20 girls taking part in a cooking and drama session. The girls spoke positively about their club activities and the opportunity for planning their summer activities.

For 2007 the project will run for a total of 4 weeks (4 days a week including weekends). The estimated total budget including a Jack Petchey grant, in kind support, PAYP and mainstream funding is £8,211. The request is for a total grant of £2,000.

For 2007 CATH will work in partnership with the True Heart Theatre which aims to work in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, to encourage cross-cultural integration.
