In those seemly quiet images, there is stunning power, like the lightning ripping through the sky. Or vice- versa, beneath the vibrant colors, lies the heavenly serenity. Qiu is greatly influenced by Buddhism – he signs his work elegantly with his Dharma name Yun Yi (cloud, unity). It may first surprise us that Qiu regarded the heroic spirit of the gladiator Spartacus as the other spiritual influence, but this helps to explain the beautiful co-existence of the quite strength in his work. But it doesn’t just stop there. One of the few Chinese artists that were introduced to the West in the early 1980s and since then remains influential, Qiu Deshu, over the years, has been steadfastly pursuing his own ideal and freedom, keeping himself independent of the Chinese art world, whether mainstream or avant-garde. He has explored and developed a convincing system of philosophical thinking and a new art language, uniquely to his own. Therefore it is with great pleasure that we present a solo show of Qiu Deshu and celebrate his art on the occasion of the inaugural Asia Week San Francisco Bay Area. I am most grateful to Prof. Kuiyi Shen for his comprehensive and thoughtful introduction of the evolution of Qiu Deshu’s art. His expertise and support has been invaluable to us.

    For immediate release 18 August 2011 NEWS RELEASE CapitaMalls Asia acquires remaining 50.0% stakes in Minhang Plaza and Hongkou Plaza in Shanghai Singapore, 18 August 2011 – CapitaMalls Asia Limited is pleased to announce today that it has entered into conditional agreements whereby it will acquire the remaining 50.0% stakes each in Minhang Plaza and Hongkou Plaza in Shanghai for about US$789.0 million (S$949.7 million) in total. Together with its associates, CapitaMalls Asia will have full interests in these two integrated developments. The proposed acquisitions are subject to the relevant governmental approvals. Minhang Plaza CapitaMalls Asia will acquire a 50.0% stake in Minhang Plaza for US$262.6 million (S$316.0 million), based on 100.0% property price of RMB3,383.7 million (S$632.1 million). Minhang Plaza has been independently valued at RMB3,386.0 million ∗ (S$632.5 million). Shanghai is China’s most thriving economic center, with GDP per capita climbing to US$20,398 by the end of 2018. Shanghai is a pioneer in China’s reform and opening- up, as well as innovation.     The Journal of Public Space ISSN 2206-9658 2019 | Vol. 4 n. 4 https://www.journalpublicspace.org REPORT FROM ‘PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE OF PUBLIC SPACE’ A New Park for Shanghai Estanislau Roca, Inés Aquilué Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain [email protected] | [email protected] Abstract This article summarizes the urban proposal of the team led by Professor Estanislau Roca, consisting of professors and students of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), for the International Student Urban Design Competition for Shanghai Railway Station presented in 2015 at the Haishang Cultural Center in Shanghai. Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Tongji University, Cardiff University, Southeast University of Nanjing and UPC participated in the competition. The UPC team won a second ex aequo prize with MIT. The UPC proposal represents the urban redevelopment of an extensive area located in the heart of the city of Shanghai, where the creation of a park comprising about 40 hectares was conceived. The park is designed to form a vast new space in the city, in an area covered by railroad tracks east of the Shanghai Railway Station, which form a great barrier that divides the Zhabei District into two disconnected parts. In the framework of the Shanghai Master Plan 2020–2040, the metropolitan scale is THE JOURNAL OF PUBLIC SPACE THE JOURNAL reflected at the local level. The proposal reinforces the continuity of green and blue through strategies that connect the new park with other existing open urban spaces and rivers. Furthermore, it enhances ecological continuity and stimulates regeneration. The project contributes to improving problems with air pollution while at the same time making the currently adopted measures more economically sustainable.

Nevertheless, the security and reliability in operation are significant issues that cannot be neglected. In this paper, the network and station vulnerabilities of the urban rail transit system were analyzed based on complex network and graph theories. A vulnerability evaluation model was proposed by accounting metro interchange and passenger flow and further validated by a case study of Shanghai Metro with full-scale network and real-world traffic data. It is identified that the urban rail transit network is rather robust to random attacks, but is vulnerable to the largest degree node-based attacks and the highest betweenness node-based attacks.
