PACS only works with internet explorer, it does not currently work with Firefox or Google Chrome. Make sure you are launching IE to access PACS.

Open internet explorer and click on the help button in your menu tool bar. Where it says “whats new in internet explorer X “is an easy way to tell what version of internet explorer you are on. You must be IE9 or prior. PACS will not work on IE10 or IE 11. If you are on one of these versions, follow the instructions in this document that tell you how to roll back the internet explorer version (you may have to enable the menu toolbar if it you do not see the file, edit, etc. To do this just right click anywhere in the “gray”space around the tabs and look for menu – see second screen shot— then make sure there is a check next to menu bar.

If the internet explorer version is above IE9, then you will need to roll it back to 9 or earlier. TO do this follow the instructions below If you are already IE9 or lower, then skip to the yellow highlighted portion.

Once you open the control panel, click on view installed updates in the left panel

From here, you will look under the Microsoft Windows subsetting. You will see a listing for Internet Explorer 11. Mine does not show this because the UPH PCs are locked down to not update IE. Forgive me, at this point, you will have to go off my word.  Once you find the Internet explorer listing, left click to highlight it.

Once it is highlighted, you can either right click and click uninstall or click uninstall at the top of the screen. This will uninstall the latest update to IE. Restoring it to the prior version. Once it is done, you will be prompted to reboot.

After you reboot, go back to the control panel and see what version is listed in the installed updates (or go to IE and click on the help button. You will see “Whats new in Internet Explorer X) That is an easy way to tell what version you currently are operating. You can’t be any higher than IE9 to work with PACS. If it rolls it back to IE10, then just simply follow the same steps again. Go to the control panel, click on the listing for Internet Explorer 10, uninstall, reboot and verify that you are on IE9.

This should take care of your issue.

A couple of other things you should check, however, to ensure it installs and runs well for you…Check these before attempting to install PACS.

In internet explorer, go to tools. That is the sprocket in the upper right hand corner of the window or it is the word tools (depends on your IE). Under tools, go to internet options.

Once there, click on the security tab. Then the green trusted sites arrow. Once you have done that, click on the box below it that says sites. This will open another window (RIGHT SCREENSHOT). Again, yours will look a bit different as mine is locked down. You will need to ensure that https://rad.pacs.ihs.org is listed. If it isn’t, then simply, type it in the box and click add and close.

While still in the security tab in the internet options and with the trusted sites check mark highlighted like the left hand screenshot above, click on the custom level button toward the bottom of that screen. This will open another list menu. Scroll a bit to the active x controls and plug ins. Make sure pretty much everything is enabled EXCEPT

“Only allow approved domains to use ACTIVE X without prompting”. This should be disabled for this zone.

Another good thing to verify is that you do not have any old version of PACS still on your PC. If you have the 11.x series of PACS it can cause issues with the install.

Go to the start menu on your desktop -> control panel -> programs and features ->

Check for anything that says HRSD, PACS 11.7, PACS 11.8. Horizon Rad Station. If you find anything with this wording, uninstall it before moving forward.

It is a good idea to reboot your PC prior to installing to ensure a clean start. Again, remember that PACS only works with internet explorer, it does not currently work with Firefox or Google Chrome. Make sure you are launching IE to access PACS.

Once you are ready, navigate to https://rad.pacs.ihs.org and walk through the steps to install. You will want to install the lite version if presented with choices.
