    Exposure Basics Exposure is governed by five related factors. You need to understand these factors and how they relate to each other to deal with difficult lighting problems. These factors are: The intensity of light falling on the scene, known as incident light. The intensity of light reflected by the scene, known as reflected light. The sensitivity of your camera's image sensor, known as the ISO value. The aperture of your lens, known as the f-stop. The duration that the shutter is open, known as the shutter speed. The good news is that despite many lighting variables, people have been taking well-exposed photos long before the first practical light meter was introduced in 1932. Incident Light Outdoors, the intensity of incident light falling on the scene can vary from 100,000 lux in full sunlight to 0.0001 lux in weak starlight. Indoors, the intensity of light can vary from 0.0 lux in Carlsdbad Caverns with the lights out to 50 lux in a dim suburban living room to 600 lux in a well-lighted office or a television studio. Outdoors, the intensity of incident light can vary minute by minute as clouds move in front of the sun and the sun moves across the sky. Reflected Light We use reflected light to capture photographic images. The amount of incident light reaching the camera sensor via the lens depends on the scene's 18 reflectance.

Premessa: La nascita delle Nikon SLR compatte La prima metà degli anni '70 è stato uno dei periodi più ricchi di fermenti innovativi per le SLR (Single Lens Reflex = reflex mono-obiettivo). Già nel 1972 la Olympus OM1 accende la rivoluzione nel sistema delle SLR medie, poi Pentax presenta il suo famoso trio di macchine con attacco K (K2, KM e KX), e nel 1975 anche Canon si adegua con l'automatica AE1. Nel 1976 le nuove ME e MX della Pentax, casa particolarmente attiva, vengono elette le SLR più compatte del mondo. Mentre la Nikon regnava incontrastata su tutti con la splendida professionale F2, le Nikon di fascia media - le Nikkormat - stavano lentamente perdendo la loro posizione di leadership, perchè ormai troppo spartane (e pesanti). Quindi il 1977 fu davvero un anno storico per la Nikon: - questo grazie alla modifica del tradizionale attacco-F in AI (Automatic Indexing), un innovativo sistema di accoppiamento macchina-ob; - e grazie alla presentazione di ben 5 modelli nuovi (F2A, Nikkormat FT3, FM, EL2 e F2AS nell'ordine, seguiti dalla FE nel '78) che dovevano sfruttare al meglio le nuove caratteristiche dell'attacco ob. In an age where we are constantly plugged into social media via our smartphones, shooting film allows us to unplug. Shooting film helps us disconnect-- to be more reflective and meditative when shooting, to consider more about what moments are truly meaningful to us, and the chance for us to re-connect with our forefathers of photography. Shooting film won’t make you a better photographer; but shooting film will make you more contemplative, more thoughtful, more reflective, and will generally help you ap- preciate the process of shooting photography more. Not only that, but after training yourself shooting film, I think you will also appreciate digital photography more. And the principles you learned from shooting film-- you can apply this to shooting digitally (not looking at your LCD screen, taking your time when taking photos, and trying to make each shot count).
