Grant Hodnett Nutrition has now been formed with James Taylor, Lauren Winfield and Lancashire’s Arron Lilley already enlisted as brand ambassadors for a range of fitness supplements. Hodnett’s double garage has now been turned into a warehouse for the tubs and bottles that contain the supplements and is rightly proud at having established the business himself. “You need to find a really clean and certified manufacturer for the supplements. Mine is based down in Cardiff they have 28 years of experience in terms of formulation and they do a lot of high end products that are available not just for professional sports people but those who want to use the gym,” Hodnett said “The powders start in liquid form and it’s amazing to watch the process which turns it into powder. “Packaging is very important, I have spent a lot of time making sure the products properly protected by having tubs which have a double safety seal. “It’s important to get the right information across in the image of the product and style of your labelling because there are a lot of products on the market that are over-loaded with information. “Apart from help in setting up my website I have done everything myself. It can be daunting at first but, with my background in cricket, it has helped to open doors for me away from the game.” Hodnett, 33, continued his first-class career back in his native South Africa for Kwa-Zulu Natal but he now plays as a professional for Oldham-based Moorside in the Pennine League as well as working as personal trainer and running his expanding business which he hopes will soon include protein bars and pre-exercise shots.

In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

  • Sussex CCC Vs Kent 2 Day Friendly the 1St Central County Ground, Hove Thursday 28Th – Friday 29Th March 2019
Sussex CCC vs Kent 2 Day Friendly The 1st Central County Ground, Hove Thursday 28th – Friday 29th March 2019 Day One Sussex’s bowlers will take plenty of encouragement from the first day of their pre- season friendly against Kent after taking 13 top-order wickets at The 1st Central County Ground on Thursday. In his first outing since undergoing hip surgery during the off-season, Ollie Robinson bowled ten overs without difficulty, picking up three for 18. At one stage he had the remarkable figures of three for none from six overs as he wreaked havoc amongst Kent’s batsmen, who it was agreed would bat for the entirety of the day’s 90 overs. Robinson struck with the third ball of the day, a length delivery that nipped back and sent Sean Dickson’s off-stump cartwheeling. Robinson had the ball moving the other way for his second dismissal, a full-pitched outswinger that made its move too late for Daniel Bell-Drummond to do anything about it crashing into his wicket. A winter of recuperation in the groundsman’s shed, the Hove off-stump was being given very little time to adjust to another season of battery from Sussex’s leading wicket-taker of 2018. Chris Jordan struck next - Adam Rouse caught down the legside by Ben Brown for a duck - before Robinson was at it again. This time it was a shorter delivery that did the business as Zack Crawley sent the ball ballooning off the back of his bat to Michael Burgess in the gully to leave Kent in dire straits at 19 for 4.

  • British Asians and the Myths of Yorkshire Cricket.I
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Leeds Beckett Repository “All Yorkshiremen are from Yorkshire, but some are more ‘Yorkshire’ than Others”: British Asians and the myths of Yorkshire cricket.i This paper explores the contemporary relationship between Yorkshire cricket and South Asian communities through oral testimonies with white and British Asian cricketers within the region. The paper documents how the myths and invented traditions surrounding Yorkshire as an insular county have extended to all levels of Yorkshire cricket culture. Evidence is presented to argue that, despite the growing representation of British Asians within the Yorkshire leagues and within the structure of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, cultural and institutionalised forms of racism continue to be intrinsic to the sport. The paper presents evidence to suggest that, regardless of being committed to Yorkshire and their ‘Yorkshireness’, white Yorkshire people may never fully accept British Asians as ‘one of us’. Finally, Yorkshire cricket’s (alleged) commitment to ‘colour-blindness’ is deconstructed by presenting evidence that British Asians continue to feel marginalised by, and on the fringe of, mainstream cricket culture in Yorkshire. Yorkshire and Yorkshire cricket: An introduction There exists in England a curious cult of Northern-ness, sort of Northern snobbishness. A Yorkshireman in the South will always take care to let you know that he regards you as an inferior … the North is inhabited by 'real' people … The Northerner has 'grit', he is grim, 'dour', plucky, warm-hearted, and democratic; the Southerner is snobbish, effeminate, and lazy - that at any rate is the theory.

  • Imran Khan: the Cricketer, the Celebrity, the Politician
Christopher Sandford Imran Khan: The Cricketer, The Celebrity, The Politician Аннотация The definitive biography of Imran Khan, the former Pakistan cricket captain and all-rounder – the Oxbridge graduate and vociferous campaigner; the devout Muslim whose kaleidoscopic social life flooded the gossip columns; the man who raised $60 million for cancer research and who is now one of the most important political figures in Pakistan. On one thing, Imran Khan’s friends and enemies agree: it all began with the leopard print satin trousers. In November 1974, the Cricketer International published an article about the new elite group of young talented players, ‘into concepts like fashion and pop music’, and bent on challenging cricket’s eternal stereotypes. Of the five featured stars on the cover, a superbly hirsute 21-year-old wearing a tight black shirt and gaudy trousers, with a facial expression of supreme self-confidence, stood out.Imran Khan has always been a controversial figure, a man who gives rise to hot debate on account of his strong conviction and hard line views. From his achievements on the cricket field as the Pakistan captain who captured the World Cup and the game’s best all-rounder in history, through to his racy social life – the practising Muslim boogieing on the dancefloor of Annabel’s, ‘an astonishing lovemaker’, according to one overnight partner, praised by Diana Princess of Wales, close friend to his then wife Jemima Goldsmith, as a ‘devoted husband’ – the Imran story is full of colour and contradictions.Acclaimed biographer Christopher Sandford has approached a richly varied cast list of Imran associates past and present – from Geoff Boycott, Javed Miandad, Mike Brearley, David Gower and John Major through to Nelson Mandela and close acquaintances male and female such as Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, John Major, Keith Richards, sources close to the late Princess of Wales and Pakistan’s General Musharraf.

RACE AND CRICKET: THE WEST INDIES AND ENGLAND AT LORD’S, 1963 by HAROLD RICHARD HERBERT HARRIS Presented to the Faculty of the Graduate School of The University of Texas at Arlington in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON August 2011 Copyright © by Harold Harris 2011 All Rights Reserved To Romelee, Chamie and Audie ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS My journey began in Antigua, West Indies where I played cricket as a boy on the small acreage owned by my family. I played the game in Elementary and Secondary School, and represented The Leeward Islands’ Teachers’ Training College on its cricket team in contests against various clubs from 1964 to 1966. My playing days ended after I moved away from St Catharines, Ontario, Canada, where I represented Ridley Cricket Club against teams as distant as 100 miles away. The faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington has been a source of inspiration to me during my tenure there. Alusine Jalloh, my Dissertation Committee Chairman, challenged me to look beyond my pre-set Master’s Degree horizon during our initial conversation in 2000. He has been inspirational, conscientious and instructive; qualities that helped set a pattern for my own discipline. I am particularly indebted to him for his unwavering support which was indispensable to the inclusion of a chapter, which I authored, in The United States and West Africa: Interactions and Relations , which was published in 2008; and I am very grateful to Stephen Reinhardt for suggesting the sport of cricket as an area of study for my dissertation.

  • 285 - November 2008
THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Frank Bailey Shaun Udal NEWSLETTER No. 285 - NOVEMBER 2008 Wednesday 12 November 2008 – Meeting This year’s beneficiary, JOHN CRAWLEY, makes a welcome return to the Society this evening. His first visit was in October 2005 when members enjoyed a most pleasant evening in his company. John Crawley has endeared himself to Hampshire supporters during his seven years with the County. He has reinforced his penchant for making high scores by being the only batsman in the County’s history to record two triple centuries, both at the expense of the Nottinghamshire bowlers. He made 301 not out at Trent Bridge in 2005 and then followed it up with an unbeaten 311 at The Rose Bowl a year later. Virtually all Hampshire supporters felt it was a great pity that Shane Warne declared when our speaker was tantalisingly close to Dick More’s record 316 for the County. When he last spoke to us he felt that the former innings was the best crafted and that, in respect of the latter, the emphasis had to be on winning the match, which Hampshire duly did. Moreover, he made 272 on his Hampshire debut at Canterbury in 2002; he has therefore recorded three of the six highest innings for the County. All three innings are the highest made for Hampshire in the last 70 years – a phenomenal achievement. He might even have made a triple century in the latter innings but was unluckily run out at the non-striker’s end when a Shaun Udal drive was deflected on to the stumps by Min Patel.
