History HISTORIC USE: In 1903, the Women’s Club of Terrell advocated for a local public library, and the city responded by gaining support from the Foundation. CURRENT USE: History Museum The Carnegie Library Program funded the construction of the Terrell and

Carnegie Library on land donated by O.B. Colquitt, who went on to become PROJECT COST: $140,000 the 25th governor of Texas in 1911. The library, designed by Messer and Smith of Waco, was dedicated on March 15, 1904. It has been maintained by, TPTF GRANT AMOUNT: $50,000 and remains under the ownership of, the city of Terrell. It houses the Terrell DATE OF APPROVED Heritage Society and Museum, a large archive of historic documents, along TPTF COMPLETION REPORT: with significant collections of archaeological and historical artifacts. The August 2017 building was among 32 Carnegie built in Texas and is one of only 12 still-standing examples. For more info www.thc.texas.gov/tptf FY 2015 Development Grant The city hired Komatsu Architecture in 2012 to develop a preservation master plan with the support of city staff and the Terrell Heritage Society. The master plan and Komatsu Architecture have guided several preservation projects, including the historic rehabilitation of the roof and parapet that was supported by a TPTF grant. The grant-funded project was successfully completed in the fall of 2016, greatly reducing the water penetration issues the building had been experiencing in the past decade and returning the parapet to its former beauty.
