Book Club: The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer Meeting date in August will be announced later this summer. Check your E-Newz for more details! The Interestings explores the meaning of talent; the nature of envy; the roles of class, art, money, and power; and how all of it can shift and tilt precipitously over the course of a friendship and a life.

The summer that Nixon resigns, six teenagers at a summer camp for the arts become inseparable. Decades later the bond remains powerful, but so much else has changed. In The Interestings, Wolitzer follows these characters from the height of youth through middle age, as their talents, fortunes, and degrees of satisfaction diverge. ”— Goodreads

This book club discussion will be led by Rabbi Lisa and Lisa Meltzer Penn. This book is not part of the Jewish Community Library System so all participants should find copies in their public libraries, a local bookstore or on Amazon.

The Book Club’s next book will be The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish, which is a long book, so readers are encouraged to get started on it as soon as possible.

Most of our discussions are sponsored by One Bay One Book, a yearlong conversation reaching Bay Area adults through opportunities for lively Jewish learning. Stimulated by a selected book and its themes, the program connects readers through discussions, events, and informal conversations. One Bay One Book is a project of the Jewish Community Library and free copies of the book of the year are made available through the Library’s Book Club in a Box program.

The group poses together in Zelda Levin’s Kitchen

What a year it has been! From challah BEW Judaica Shop and care bags to brunch and bunko and Pam Abraham batsheva. From healthy habits, hamsas and hamantashen to soup and seder. Treasured The BEW Judaica Shop is open by memories, treasured heirlooms, and treasured appointment only during the summer. friends (new and old). Caring for ourselves Please email Pam at [email protected] to and for our community (near and far)—this schedule an appointment. is what BEW had on the table this year!

We could not have done it without you and hope that next year, you will tell your friends to join in the fun! With construction underway, we will be taking our show on the road next year to new and exciting places and events.

We need you! With a few key positions to fill, we are in need of a few “wonder women” to join us on the BEW Board next year. The commitment is not too intimidating and we promise you lots of laughter, love and support along the way!

Don’t forget to renew your BEW dues on your PTBE dues commitment page and we will keep a spot at the TABLE for you in the fall! 13 BROTHERHOOD Iyar-Elul 5779
