TURKISH AIRLINES | PROCEDURE FOR RESTRICTION OF ENTRY TO TURKEY Dear Agent, Below you will find the procedure to follow for all individual and group bookings with flights operated by Turkish Airlines from/to SPAIN, FRANCE, GERMANY, AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, THE NETHERLANDS, SWEDEN, NORWAY AND DENMARK between March 14 and May 31, 2020 (inclusive), and with tickets issued up to March 14, 2020 (inclusive). 1. Rebooking and Rerouting: • Changes of date and route allowed without penalty to fly until May 31, 2020 (included), ONLY if the new destination is within the same IATA zone. Rebooking can be done in any available booking class (except R, I, X, N classes) always respecting the original cabin: Business or Tourist. • Changes of date and route allowed without penalty for flying from June 1, 2020 (included) and up to 1 year from the date of issue of the original ticket, ONLY if the new destination is within the same IATA zone and provided that the same original booking class is available. If it is not available, no penalty will be applied, but the corresponding fare difference will be applied. • Procedure for reissuance: Re-issue the tickets as involuntary by indicating in the endorsement box the following note: "INVOL CHNG DUE TO ENTRY RESTRICTION OF TURKEY. Message ID:280565946'. New reservations must be made only on flights operated by TK. For changes on code share flights where TK is a marketing carrier, i.e. TK does not operate the flight, the fare rules apply. Only 1 change of date and/or route without penalty is allowed. Tickets must be reissued before 15th April 2020 (included). 2. Refunds: • Refunds allowed without penalty o Unused tickets: full refund o Partially used tickets: refund of the unused part. • Procedure for refund: Involuntary refund can be made directly by GDS by indicating in the endorsement box the following note: "INVOL REFUND DUE TO ENTRY RESTRICTION OF TURKEY". Including code share flights where TK is a marketing carrier. Tickets must be refunded by April 15, 2020 (included). 3. Extension of validity: • Allowed without penalty until 31 May 2020. 4. Rebooking and Rerouting for Group bookings: • 1 change of date and/or route is allowed without penalty for all those group bookings whose EMD-GARANTEE has already been delivered. Avianca Brasil to Exit Star Alliance
AVIANCA BRASIL TO EXIT STAR ALLIANCE Star Alliance maintains competitive network in the region FRANKFURT, Germany – 19 August 2019 –Brazilian airline Ocean Air Linhas Aéreas S/A, headquartered in São Paulo and formerly doing business as Avianca Brasil, will formally leave Star Alliance with effect from 1 September 2019. Ocean Air’s withdrawal follows several months of bankruptcy protection and the withdrawal of its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) by Brazilian regulator ANAC. The Star Alliance network maintains a significant and long-time presence in the Brazilian market continuously since its founding in 1997. As of 1 September 2019, the Alliance will number 27 member airlines. Jeffrey Goh, CEO Star Alliance, said: “Initially joining Star Alliance in 2015, Avianca Brasil made important contributions to our customer proposition in the Brazilian market, and we regret this unfortunate development. “I wish to stress that the exit of Avianca Brasil in no way affects the membership of Avianca S.A., our valued member based in Bogota, Colombia, which continues to be a significant contributor to the Alliance in South America." This study aims to assess customer- based market positions of domestic airlines in Turkey. Data obtained from 202 university students were used to generate comparative market positioning maps in order to explore the position of each airline company. The results show that Turkish Airlines had better positions than other airlines in regard to several competitiveness indicators (e.g. quality, price, and favorite travel choice). This finding emphasizes the competitive advantage of legacy domestic airlines as against that of low-cost airlines. However, the real GDP growth per annum slowed down from 6.1% in 2015 to 3.2% in 2016, and the Turkish Lira devaluated by more than 40% from July 2016 to December 2017. There was also a significant decrease in inward foreign direct investments (FDIs) (see Exhibit 2), and the inflation was rising to double digits. The failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016, acts of terrorism since July 2015, killing many innocent civilians in the country, and the shooting of a Russian warplane on November 24, 2015, leading nearly to the freezing of economic relations between Russia and Turkey challenged Turkey’s competitiveness. The most serious impact was on the tourism sector, and Turkish Airlines, the flag carrier of Turkey, got its share. The airline has been growing during the last 15 years to become the number one airline covering more destinations worldwide than any other airline (49 cities inside Turkey and 250 cities abroad)2, and Skytrax, an international air transport rating organization, has been awarding it as the best airline in Europe for six consecutive years since 20113.
