HOUSE OF KEYS Y Chiare as Feed :).‘t 12th March 2018 Nomination papers laid before the House of Keys Pursuant to the Order of the House I have laid the attached papers before the House of Keys on the above date. They consist of the nominations, received by email, and attached papers. 12th March 2018 Roger PHILLIPS Secretary of the House of Keys From: Daphne Caine Sent: 26 January 2018 13:09:31 To: Roger Phillips Cc: Bill Shimmins Chief Minister Martyn Perkins Jonathan King Subject: nomination for Legislative Council - Mrs Jane Poole-Wilson Importance: Normal Attachments: Jane Poole-Wilson.jpg ;JPPW biog January 2018.pdf ; Dear Roger I would like to propose Mrs Jane Poole-Wilson for one of the vacancies on the Legislative Council. Bill Shimmins MHK has agreed to second her nomination, which is supported by Howard Quayle MHK and Martyn Perkins MHK. Since her election to the Legislative Council in May 2017, Jane has taken an active and constructive role in Legislative Council business, particularly the detailed and considered scrutiny of legislation. Likewise, she has engaged positively with Tynwald scrutiny and debate, particularly in her various Committee roles. As Chair of the recently formed Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice, Jane has been able to use her legal experience and skills to input into the Committee’s initial focus on scoping its work programme. As a member of the Select Committee on Library provision, she has enjoyed and been committed to thorough and detailed research to gain an evidence based understanding of the issues and challenges our libraries face. As Equality Champion, Jane has worked with energy and commitment to fulfil her brief and to that end has directly engaged with Honourable Members, officers in Government Departments, businesses, third sector organisations and individuals, to help raise awareness of the Equality Act 2017 and to support work on its implementation in line with the Programme for Government. In addition, Jane has worked with several Honourable Members on particular issues, often involving matters raised by members of the public, and she has continued her voluntary roles at a Trustee of St Christopher’s Isle of Man and Parent Governor at Marown School. Manx born and raised, Jane’s professional qualification as a solicitor and career as an employment lawyer and HR training specialist, as well as her experience as Isle of Man Legal Aid Deputy Certifying Officer, mean she has skills and experience she has been readily able to put to demonstrable positive use in her work so far as a Member of the Legislative Council. This and her ongoing drive, hard work, commitment and enthusiasm for the Isle of Man, I believe, strongly support her re-election to the Upper Chamber. I attach Jane’s biography for more information along with a photo, if wanted. It has also shown how the charity sector can partner effectively with Government Departments; Parent Governor at Marown Primary School (September 2016 to date); 1st Marown Beaver Scout Leader (2011-2016) organised and ran Beaver Scout meetings and activities; Involved in supporting other community and sports organisations including Marown Youth and Community Players, Crosby Cricket Club and Western Vikings RUFC. Ann Corlett MHK has agreed to second and the nomination is assented to by Hon. Ray Harmer MHK and Tim Baker MHK. John has a long record of public service having served on Douglas Council for the six years as well as during that time completing a very successful year representing the people of Douglas as Mayor. John had a long and successful 30 year career in the Fire Service which allowed him to develop his communication and organisational skills. I believe that in light of the above John would be asset to Legislative Council and I attach a more detailed CV.
