"CINEMA CABINET’’ – DIGITAL EXPOSITION AT THE RIGA FILM MUSEUM 01.04.-30.12., 11:00-18:00 (II,III,V), 11:00-20:00 (IV) 11:00- 17:00 (VI) The exposition ‘’Cinema Cabinet’’ provides comprehensive/concise information about Latvian film history against the backdrop of world cinematic events. The idea of the ‘’Cinema Cabinet’’ conforms to the Cabinet of Folksongs (Dainas) as a depository storing not only a mon- umental collection of folksongs, but also the wisdom of life experience. EXHIBITION "DEEPER INTO THE FOREST" 01.-05.04., 10:00-17:00 (III,V), 10:00-19:00 (IV), 11:00- 17:00 (VI-VII) Forests are among Latvia’s most well-known natural resources. The Latvian people are wise and enthusiastic about the natural world, i.e., they love communing with nature. Something not practiced in many countries, the traditions of hunting, and berry and mushroom pick- ing are still popular here. Forests (certainly in Latvia) are abundant in natural riches that most modern societies fail to notice. EXHIBITION "THE WHITE AND THE BLACK - THE STORY OF A PAINTING" 01.04.-08.08., 11:00-18:00 (III-VI), 11:00-19:00 (II) The double portrait The White and the Black (1925) is an outstanding example of Latvian Modernism of the 1920s and holds a special place among the works of Aleksandra Beļcova. However, this work arouses interest not only among art historians. It contains an intriguing and dra- matic story about the fate of the model portrayed in the painting, Biruta Ozoliņa, who was the sister of a close friend of Aleksandra Beļcova. CERAMICS EXHIBITION BY LITHUANIAN ARTISTS DALIA JAKIMAVICIENE AND RYTAS JAKIMAVICIUS 27.03.-17.05., 11:00-18:00 (II-VII) Dalia Jakimaviciene and Rytas Jakimavicius are a ceramist duo (wife and husband), who are among the leading artists in Lithuania. Each has earned recognition with their own unique style; they play an important role in European ceramic art. Methods are often connected by parallels – porcelain china is made usually using ceramic decals or by painting them by hand. CABARET REVIVAL AT "JŪRMALA" RESTAURANT 04.04., 18.04., 19:30 In the early 1980s, "Jūrmala" Restaurant and its cabaret troupe were famous throughout Latvia and abroad. People would make reserva- tions months in advance just to be able to see the renowned show.
