The present study describes the design and structure of the masseter muscle of the blind mole rat (Spalax leucodon). The blind mole rat, which emer- ged 5.3–3.4 million years ago during the Late Pliocene period, is a subterranean, hypoxia-tolerant and cancer-resistant rodent. Yet, despite these impressive cha- racteristics, no information exists on their masticatory musculature. Materials and methods: Fifteen adult blind mole rats were used in this study. Dissections were performed to investigate the anatomical characteristics of the masseter muscle. Results: The muscle was comprised of three different parts: the superficial mas- seter, the deep masseter and the zygomaticomandibularis muscle. The superficial masseter originated from the facial fossa at the ventral side of the infraorbital foramen. The deep masseter was separated into anterior and posterior parts. The anterior part of the zygomaticomandibularis muscle arose from the snout and passed through the infraorbital foramen to connect on the mandible. -

Recent work at the Endangered Primate Rescue Center (EPRC) in Cuc Phuong National Park is the first to examine kinematics during arboreal quadrupedal locomotion in these endangered leaf monkeys, revealing marked differences in tail postures among four similarly sized species. During symmetrical walking, doucs ( Pygathrix nemaeus and P. cinerea ) typically allow the tail to hang down, falling along the substrate behind them during travel. Delacour’s langurs (Trachypithecus delacouri ) exhibit greater variability, often arching the tail higher in concave- downwards posture. Hatinh langurs ( Trachypithecus hatinhensis ) exhibit the greatest variability in tail posture, often raising the tail in a concave-upwards arc with the tip reaching over the thorax. -

This study applies UNESCO’s four stages continuum model and SEAMEO’s ten- dimension framework to make a comprehensive description of the situation of ICT integration in a teacher training institutes in Lao PDR, marking both the achievement and challenges. This study chooses Luang Prabang Teacher Training Colleges (LPB TTC) as the research site. Executive Summary, Oudomxay Province Oudomxay Province is in the heart of northern Laos. It borders China to the north, Phongsaly Province to the northeast, Luang Prabang Province to the east and southeast, Xayabouly Province to the south and southwest, Bokeo Province to the west, and Luang Namtha Province to the northwest. Covering an area of 15,370 km2 (5,930 sq. ml), the province’s topography is mountainous, between 300 and 1,800 metres (980-5,910 ft.) above sea level. Annual rain fall ranges from 1,900 to 2,600 millimetres (75-102 in.). The average winter temperature is 18 C, while during summer months the temperature can climb above 30 C. Muang Xai is the capital of Oudomxay. It is connected to Luang Prabang by Route 1. Oudomxay Airport is about 10-minute on foot from Muang Xai center. Lao Airlines flies from this airport to Vientiane Capital three times a week. Oudomxay is rich in natural resources. Approximately 60 rivers flow through its territory, offering great potential for hydropower development. About 12% of Oudomxay’s forests are primary forests, while 48% are secondary forests. Deposits of salt, bronze, zinc, antimony, coal, kaolin, and iron have been found in the province. In 2011, Oudomxay’s total population was 307,065 people, nearly half of it was females. There are 14 different ethnic groups living in the province. Due to its mountainous terrains, the majority of Oudomxay residents practice slash- and-burn agriculture, growing mountain rice. Other main crops include cassava, corn, cotton, fruits, peanut, soybean, sugarcane, vegetables, tea, and tobacco. -

This study aimed at examining how tourism growth has impacted the built environment of Luang Prabang, Lao PDR through an empirical approach. Luang Prabang has received a critical warning from World Heritage Committee for the escalating development pressure on its vulnerable landscape. Hence, this study examined two aspects: (1) the spatial pattern of the increase of touristic usage; and (2) the relation between the increase of touristic usage and the significant changes in the built environment. For this, geographical information systems (GIS) are combined with statistical methods such as logistic regression and chi-square test of independence. The results affirmed that the change from other types of usage to touristic usage in existing buildings has a higher chance to occur along riverbank areas than in the middle of the peninsula in the core heritage area. -

Morphologically, the specimen shows good agreement with the original descrip- tion of R. verrucopus and phylogenetically, it is clustered with the specimen of R. verrucopus from Medog, Tibet, China with strong support. This is also the first record of R. verrucopus from outside of China. Internal Ex-Post Evaluation for Technical Cooperation Project
Internal Ex-Post Evaluation for Technical Cooperation Project conducted by Laos Office: August 2018 Country Name Project for Improving In-service Teacher Training for Science and Mathematics Lao People's Democratic Republic Education I. Project Outline As one of the top prioritized sectors in contributing to poverty reduction in Lao PDR, various efforts had been made in the education sector under the following three pillars: (1) improvement of equitable access; (2) improvement of quality and relevance; and (3) improvement of administration and management. Although the enrollment rate in the primary education had been improved, other indicators that are related to the quality of education, for example, repetition, dropout, and completion rates had not been improved as expected. With these backgrounds, the Education Sector Development Framework (ESDF) (2009-2015) placed an emphasis Background on the improvement of teachers’ quality by strengthening the capacity of in-service training. JICA supported the improvement of teacher education through the Project for Improving Science and Mathematics Teacher Training (SMATT) from 2004 to 2008, which aimed at improving quality of science and mathematics lecturers at teacher education institute (TEI). Training contents and learner-centered approaches of SMATT were recognized as relevant and useful for persons and organizations concerned. Recognizing these achievements and impacts of SMATT project, the Government of Lao PDR requested the continued support to enhance and expand the outputs of SMATT project to the school level. Through strengthening the mechanism and human resources and developing materials for improving lessons, the project aimed at improving quality of science and mathematics lessons in target schools, thereby improving quality of lessons in target provinces.
