New College Lanarkshire Erasmus+ Activities 2017/18 This year the Erasmus program has enabled 324 students from 4 campuses of New College Lanarkshire to have a wonderful experience! 27 groups went to visit six European countries. In Malta, France, Austria, Spain, Italy and finally Cyprus the students were accompanied by 87 fantastic staff. The purpose of this article is to let you learn about each group. Flow 1 - Malta 21 students undertook a two week work placement to Malta, from 24/04/2017 – 14/05/2018. These students study Early Years, in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner, Luxol . The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 2 - Grenoble Four students undertook a two week work placement to Grenoble, from 09/06/2018 - 23/06/2018. These students study Early Years in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner, ITEC Boisfleury The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 3 - Madrid Eight students undertook a two week work placement to Madrid, from 03/03/2018 - 17/03/2018 These student study Early Years in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner, IES Pio Baroja. The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 4 - Murcia Four students undertook a two week work placement in Murcia, from 05/05/2018 – 19/05/2018. These students Early Years, in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner Kings College Nursery “Kings College is an English speaking school which caters for children 18 months to 18 years. It is situated in the El Torre Golf Resort of Murcia. Kings College Nursery follow the English National Curriculum with their aim that all children are bi lingual in Spanish and English as well as having a positive learning experience through play “. Placements: “The students attended Monday to Friday 9.00am-4.30pm and were placed across the various ages ranges of 18months to 5 years. Their focus was to work as part of a team, plan and implement play experiences for the children - age and stage appropriate, follow the routines of the setting and interact with the children in a positive manner. Most of the children spoke both Spanish and English, some just Russian or Spanish. The staff in the nursery communicated in English at all times and the children were encouraged to do this also.” Cultural experience: Tracy Mason “The students had an extremely positive experience at the placement and received outstanding reports from staff and lecturers”. Picture by Tracy Mason Flow 5 - Malta 9 students undertook a two week work placement in Malta , from 26/05/2018 - 09/06/2018. These students study Healthcare in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner Luxol.. The staff tells us a little bit more about this trip. Local Town/city They were extremely lucky with the location of The Park Hotel which was based in Sliema . It is a vibrant area, easy access the beach, the shops, the harbour and public transport, perfect for the group. Picture by Loraine McDermott Placements: Professional: The students had a great variety of placement in care settings. This included - Day Centres, - Care Homes, - Homeless Hostels - Mental Health Support Services. Craig Ruxton “While it was a long journey at times to get students to their particular areas, they benefited greatly from the experience.” Cultural: Their cultural opportunities included visits to Mdina, Valetta, Marsaxlokk Market and a day at the beach. They saw the beautiful St-Paul-S-Cathedral she is a 17th century masterpiece located in the heart of Malta. They saw the beautiful landscape of Blue-Lagoon. Situated between Malta and Gozo, the smaller island of Comino is a paradise for snorkelers, divers, windsurfers and ramblers. The student and the staff visited and saw the beautiful landscapes of Malta ! Students and staff seem to have had a good time in Malta ! In their own words… “Undertaking such an intense placement and cultural experience for students and lecturers could be a challenge. However, each of us supported each other and had a wonderful experience.” Flow 7 - Malta 5 students left for a two week work placement to Malta, from 12/05/2018 - 26/05/2018. These students study Dental, in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner, Luxol. The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 8 - Murcia 4 students undertook a two week work placement in Murcia, from, 05/05/2018 – 19/05/2018. These study Dental in the Care & Science faculty. They welcomed by host partner Sunsure Education Management. The students a were involved participated in the internship at local dental offices. Laura McMillan tells us a little bit more about this trip. Placements: Students took part in a range of activities including: - Dentalchair assistance, - Patient treatment, - Infection control management. Cultural trips took place, for the greatest pleasure of the students!! . The students explored the beautiful architecture and history of Murcia . They were able to see one of the "Festivities of the Region of Murcia" Pianos en la Calle. It is not possible to go to Murcia without going for a swim in the SEA!!! Staff Point of view Students were joined during the trip by staff Claire Manning and Laura McMillan : “We were pleased to see positive changes in the students during the trip, the quieter students became more extroverted, aware of their own abilities and established good relations with Erasmus students from other departments and dental staff of the region” “During their trip, students encountered a variety of new and different situations and each student demonstrated that they were able to integrate and adapt to different environments, make professional decisions, compromise and to work well with everyone involved.” Flow 9 - Malta 6 students undertook for a two week work placement to Malta , from 26/05/2018 - 09/06/2018. These students study Animal Care, in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner, Luxol. The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 10 - Murcia Seven students undertook for a two week work placement to Murcia, from 05/05/2018 - 19/05/2018. These students study Animal Care, in the Care & Science faculty. They were welcomed by host partner, Sunsure Education Management. The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 11 - Lyon Eight students undertook a two week work placement to Lyon, from 13/06/2018 - 27/06/2018 These students study Motor Vehicle, in the Engineering & Automotive faculty. They were welcomed by host partner, Emile Bejuit . The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 12 - Austria Five students undertook a two week work placement in Austria, from 16/06/2018 - 30/06/2018. These students study Motor Cycle, in the Engineering & Automotive faculty. They welcomed by host partner, Fachberufsschule Wolfsberg. The students and staff took part in many activities during their stay. For example: Work placement Cultural activities Flow 13 - Paul Clark (accompanying staff) Eight students undertook a two week work placement in Lyon, from 09/05/2018 – 16/05/2018. These students study Hospitality, in the Services Industries faculty. They welcomed by host partner College Helene Boucher. Placements: “The placements where spread across the city” The students and staff ate in the delicious restaurants of Lyon . They included : - Le Trois Domes restaurant - Le Garage restaurant - ICEO restaurant, - Zucca restaurant - Le Passage restaurant - Le Cintra restaurant Picture by Dawn Stokes Cultural experience: Picture by Dawn Stokes Paul Clark tells us that the learners have visited very beautiful places in Lyon ! His Impossible to go to Lyon without visiting the magnificent Parc de la Tête d'or, Lyon is a city with large restaurants like that of Pierre Bocuse. The student ans Staff have dined in “La Brasseries de Paul Bocuse” Paul Bocuse was born on February 11th, 1926 in Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or, from a family of cooks transmitted from father to son since the XVIIth century…You want to learn more Click here Lyon is a city watered by three major rivers: the Rhône, the Saône and the Beaujolais. Paul Clark “The experience was very positive with all learners working in a high standard of placement improving their skills and self- confidence, for many it was their first time being away from home, they did very well to cope with the demands of living and working in a new country” Picture by Dawn Stokes Flow 14 - Murcia 8 students undertook two week work placement in Murcia, from 28/05/2018 - 11/06/2018. These students study Hospitality, in the Services Industries faculty.
