In my 19 2 Letter from the years as a Head of School, this has easily been the Head of School, most challenging to navigate, and I’m sure many continued of you have had similar experiences at work and at home. I owe a great amount of gratitude to the Covid-19 Springmont community for the many ways we Emergency have pulled together to handle this unprecedented Tuition situation and the obstacles it presented. Assistance Fund Springmont’s last day of on-campus lessons was Thursday, March 12th. On March 13th Parent/ 3 Congratulations Teacher Conferences took place as scheduled, and Class of 2020 we dismissed for the weekend with plans for Faculty and Staff to return to campus the following Monday to organize and strategize for what we thought 4 Maria’s 150th would be two weeks of remote learning. By Sunday, Birthday I alerted Faculty and Staff not to report to campus the following day as the risk of infection was increasing by the moment. Alumni Association It’s said that “necessity is the mother of invention” and that certainly was accurate. Changes Many in the modern workplace are equipped to work from home as needed, but that was not the case for educators, especially those dedicated to the hands-on/experiential pedagogy of the Montessori experience. The material relates to Max Cleland’s tenure as a Georgia State Senator, Administrator of the Veterans Affairs Agency, and his participation in the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs to improve hospitals. The material reflects his concerns for Vietnam veterans regarding employment, health care, drug abuse, and education. The collection also contains personal correspondence, photographs, and memorabilia. Creator Information: Cleland, Joseph Maxwell (Max) Joseph Maxwell (Max) Cleland was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 24, 1942. He grew up in Lithonia, Georgia and graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida in 1964. He received a Master’s degree from Emory University in 1968. Cleland served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of captain from 1965-1968. He was wounded in combat in Vietnam ending his military service. He was of member of the Georgia Senate from 1971-1975, and was an unsuccessful candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 1974. In 1975, he served as a consultant to the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs and became a professional senate staff member from 1975-1977. He was appointed as Administrator of the U.S. Veterans Administration by President Jimmy Carter in 1977 and served until 1981.

This letter comes to you after quite a bit of thought. Jeff Miller asked me to have the letter completed much sooner than he actually received it. I was, and am, unsure what to say. Should this be a “thank you” letter to the GFCA for allowing me to serve as president for the last two years? Should it be a “State of Debate” letter? Should I offer ideas, insights, reasons? Should it be formal and efficient? No. For those who are unaware, I have some shocking news.I used to work for Disney. I know, big surprise. I also am a huge fan of Disney animated films. The reason why I am, however, may surprise. I am NOT a huge fan of a Disney Happy Ending. They are predictable, syrupy and just too… Happy. Instead, I prefer the back story of those Disney films. I like the Disney formula that seems to work on audiences, even after 80 years. There is a struggle, an unexpected friendship, a reliance on truth and possibility, acknowledgement of personal hubris and doubt, a decision, moral culpability and, finally, a goal within reach. The next movie changes things a bit, but only slightly.
