Trauma, Dissociation and the Journey to Soul Healing A
TRAUMA, DISSOCIATION AND THE JOURNEY TO SOUL HEALING A THESIS Presented to FACULTY AND THE MASTER OF PSYCHOTHERAPY AND SPIRITUALITY PROGRAM COMMITTEE of St. Stephen’s College Edmonton, Alberta In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF PSYCHOTHERAPY AND SPIRITUALITY by Karin Gabriele Stewart Edmonton, Alberta St. Stephen’s College RELEASE FORM NAME OF AUTHOR: Karin Gabriele Stewart TITLE OF THESIS: TRAUMA, DISSOCIATION AND THE JOURNEY TO SOUL HEALING DEGREE: MASTER OF PSYCHOTHERAPY AND SPIRITUALITY YEAR THIS DEGREE GRANTED: 2012 Permission is herby granted to St. Stephen’s College to reproduce single copies of this thesis and to lend or sell such copies for private, scholarly or scientific research purposes only. The author reserves other publication rights, and neither the thesis or extensive extracts from it may be printed or otherwise reproduced without the authors written permission. Signature I dedicate this work in gratitude to my always patient and supportive partner Jim and to my also patient and supportive children Lydia and Alexander Abstract This research is a narrative inquiry into the immediate and long-term effects of soul loss retrieval as a way of recovering from long-term trauma and dissociation. Particular interest is placed on the ability of soul retrieval to restore wholeness and power balance to a person’s life. I inquired into the lived experiences of soul healing, as described by four women who participated in a soul loss recovery journey, part of the Trauma Recovery Certification Program developed and taught by Dr. Jane A. Simington. I chose this method because it is a pioneering attempt to blend modern psychoanalytic techniques with ancient shamanic approaches that are still being used in traditional cultures all over the world. -

The 12 Mysteries of Love by Linda Goodman
The Twelve Mysteries of Love from the introduction of Love Signs by Linda Goodman The Twelve Initiations of Love In each of the following experiences, man or woman is fully capable of giving and teaching others the first quality, but for the personality to learn the second quality is a struggle. When one's understanding of this second quality equals that of the first, he or she has then achieved mastery of a particular Sun Sign. The soul must pass more than once through the First Six Initiations of Love as: ARIES the infant "I am" to teach that love is innocence and learn that love is trust TAURUS the baby "I have" to teach that love is patience and learn that love is forgiveness GEMINI the child "I think" to teach that love is awareness and learn that love is feeling CANCER the adolescent "I feel" to teach that love is devotion and learn that love is freedom LEO the teenager "I will" to teach that love is ecstasy and learn that love is humility VIRGO the adult "I analyze" to teach that love is pure and learn that love is fulfillment After achieving emotional maturity in these first six stages of development, man and woman must then pass through love's Final Six Initiations (more than once) to discover its deeper spiritual meaning in: LIBRA marriage "I balance" to teach that love is beauty and learn that love is harmony SCORPIO sex "I desire" to teach that love is passion and learn that love is surrender SAGITTARIUS knowledge "I see" to teach that love is honesty and learn that love is loyalty CAPRICORN experience "I use" to teach that love is wisdom and learn that love is unselfish AQUARIUS idealism "I know" to teach that love is tolerance and learn that love is Oneness PISCES submission "I believe" to teach that love is compassion and learn that love is ALL and so to realize at last that Love Is Eternal The Aries Love Mystery The soul, symbolically newborn in Aries (although not necessarily in its first earthly sojourn), relates to dawn, sunrise, spring and Easter - or the resurrection from its "death" in the previous sign of Pisces. -
Prophecy, Cosmology and the New Age Movement: the Extent and Nature of Contemporary Belief in Astrology
PROPHECY, COSMOLOGY AND THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT: THE EXTENT AND NATURE OF CONTEMPORARY BELIEF IN ASTROLOGY NICHOLAS CAMPION A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of the West of England, Bristol for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Bath Spa University College Study of Religions Department, Bath Spa University College June 2004 Acknowledgments I would like to acknowledge helpful comments and assistance from Sue Blackmore, Geoffrey Dean, Ronnie Dreyer, Beatrice Duckworth, Kim Farnell, Chris French, Patrice Guinard, Kate Holden, Ken Irving, Suzy Parr and Michelle Pender. I would also like to gratefully thank the Astrological Association of Great Britain (AA), The North West Astrology Conference (NORWAC), the United Astrology Congress (UAC), the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR) and the National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR) for their sponsorship of my research at their conferences. I would also like to thank the organisers and participants of the Norwegian and Yugoslavian astrological conferences in Oslo and Belgrade in 2002. Ill Abstract Most research indicates that almost 100% of British adults know their birth-sign. Astrology is an accepted part of popular culture and is an essential feature of tabloid newspapers and women's magazines, yet is regarded as a rival or, at worst, a threat, by the mainstream churches. Sceptical secular humanists likewise view it as a potential danger to social order. Sociologists of religion routinely classify it as a cult, religion, new religious movement or New Age belief. Yet, once such assumptions have been aired, the subject is rarely investigated further. If, though, astrology is characterised as New Age, an investigation of its nature may shed light on wider questions, such as whether many Christians are right to see New Age as a competitor in the religious market place. -

So-called "reality" television shows, such as NBC's Unsolved Mysteries, and syndicated newsmagazines such as Hard Copy, and A Current Affair, regularly feature UFO accounts. The syndicated Sightings, and Fox's Encoun ters are entirely devoted to UFOs and other paranormal phenomena while a popular new adventure series, The X-Files, utilizes current UFO beliefs in its storylines. -

Isadora Duncan In a culture whose already classical dilemma is the hypertrophy of the intellect at the expense of energy and sensual capability, interpretation is the revenge of the intellect upon art. Even more. It is the revenge of the intellect upon the world. To interpret is to impoverish, to deplete the world – in order to set up a shadow world of “meanings.” It is to turn the world into this world. (“This world”! As if there were any other.) Introduction to Organized Spiritual UFO Groups Although the Wider
Introduction to Organized Spiritual UFO Groups Although the wider UFO movement has very little in the way of formal organizational structures, there are several groups within the UFO movement that have emerged with distinct histories, worldviews, beliefs and practices of their own. These groups are usually quite small, but are often also quite well known, because they become the more visible aspect of the spiritual UFO movement. These groups are usually organized like a school or a classroom, in which teachings communicated by extraterrestrial "teachers" are passed down to interested human "students." Invariably in these groups, the wisdom of extraterrestrial entities is understood to be far in advance of current human learning and knowledge. As a result, extraterrestrials become figures of reverence. It is NOT correct to say, however, that they become objects of worship. Within these organized spiritual UFO groups, extraterrestrial entities are seen to be more spiritually advanced than we are, but they are simply farther along the spiritual path to God than humans, they are not gods themselves. Most organized UFO spiritual groups also believe in the existence of less advanced, "evil" alien entities who work to oppose our continued learning and spiritual evolution. The spiritual task of believers is therefore to overcome the evil alien influence under the guidance of benevolent alien teachings, and sometimes with the direct assistance of the "good" aliens. The three best known UFO spiritual groups are the Aetherius Society, Unarius, and the Raelian Movement. The Aetherius Society One of the earliest organized UFO spiritual groups to be founded was The Aetherius Society. -
Mastering the Body: from Experience to Discourse Shamanic Healing in Urban Canada
Mastering the Body: From Experience to Discourse Shamanic Healing in Urban Canada by Catherine Lemieux A thesis submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department for the Study of Religion University of Toronto © Copyright by Catherine Lemieux 2018 Mastering the Body: From Experience to Discourse Shamanic Healing in Urban Canada Catherine Lemieux Doctor of Philosophy Department for the Study of Religion University of Toronto 2018 Abstract This research is an ethnographic study of Jeannette McCullough’s shamanic circles in Toronto, Canada. This thesis situates her practice within the field of shamanic studies and investigates four aspects of the therapeutic process: the experience and intentions of the healer; the ritual action and therapeutic imageries of practitioners; the personal trajectories and therapeutic choices of participants; and the broader social concerns and politics that this form of healing reveals. The examination of the ritual’s efficacy exposes the ways in which technology addresses identity issues and challenges techniques of the body. More specifically, animal and ancestor embodiment, dismemberment, and transmutation are shamanic techniques that initiate participants to a range of perceptions that take place within a flexible ritual structure, and shelters the person from external sources of meaning. These experiences allow individuals to take distance from affliction by inducing healing as an autogenous process of transformation. ii Moreover, self-reflexive testimonies reveal how Toronto participants construct spirituality as a mode of resistance to a more conventional lifestyle, situated halfway between religion and atheism. These observations show participants’ desire to maintain positive social engagements while remaining in the fringe of society.
