Expect the Unexpected - the Amazing Folded Pen! with Lorraine Douglas Date: Friday, November 1, 2019 Time: 9:30 to 4 p.m. Location: Church of the Latter-day Saints 2210 Eastleigh Way, Sidney Cost: $70.00 for FCS members, $85.00 for non members Have you bought a folded pen and are not sure how to use it? Or want to learn a few new moves? Or have never met up with this fantastic tool before? Join this introduction to the possibilities of using a folded pen - a wonderful tool for creating lines, rough marks, blobs and splatters and more. Your folded pen (or a ruling pen) shows calligraphic energy and has a very contemporary look. This pen can create thick and thin marks depending on how you hold it and what angle you use. The workshop is a quick step by step introduction to how to get going with the tool and is designed for folded pen beginners but those with experience can enjoy a day of play with their pens and ink. Supplies: • A folded pen – if you are ordering your first folded pen – I recommend ordering from John Neal Books in the USA, the N30 folded pen designed by Matthew Coffin OR You can also use a ruling pen or ruling writer OR Lorraine is getting folded pen nibs from Peter Lax and will have them for sale at the workshop. You will need to bring a pen holder. Email Lorraine at [email protected] if you want a Peter nib. • Bottle of black Higgins Eternal Ink and masking tape to affix it to the table • Pad of calligraphy practice paper with no lines on it – 11 by 17 if possible, paper towels, pencil, 12 inch ruler, eraser, pencil sharpener, three or four sheets of plain newsprint to go under your paper for a cushion, gluestick, pointed watercolour brush, about size two or three, not an expensive one, water jar, plastic tray with wells in it for inks • Your lunch, a pillow to sit on. Mug for your tea -We can have non caffeine products at the Church and can have herbal tea breaks. Free parking…come around the back of the church for parking and use that doorway. The class is limited to ten students..
