There was only one recommendation from the previous IMPEP review, relating to the its incident response program to ensure that incidents are appropriately investigated and are promptly reported to NRC, as appropriate. Regarding incident reporting requirements, the bureau has implemented the formal recommendation of the IMPEP report by retraining all regional and central office staff on the proper reporting requirements. This training included the proper timeframe of reporting and ensuring all reportable events are closed out and root cause is included.     Correctional Newsfront The official newsletter of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections 2018 News ~ January to March Week of March 26… SCI Mercer Celebrates Retirements Last week SCI Mercer celebrated the retirements of three long-time employees who had a combined total of over 70 years of DOC experience and over 50 years of military service. Employees celebrated with each of the retirees by enjoying cake and snacks and sharing many great memories from their years of service to the Commonwealth. Security Lieutenant Jimmy Arbogast began his 23-year DOC career at SCI Albion in June 1995. He then transferred to SCI Mercer in December 2008, was promoted to sergeant in December 2009, and lieutenant in September 2016. Lt. Arbogast retired from the Army National Guard as a Command Sergeant Major with 28 years. Arbogast is pictured with Capt. Jeffrey Wilson. Giuseppe “Joe” Perrotta, Adult Basic Education and ESL teacher, began his DOC career in 1994 as a part-time evening ESL teacher for three years. He was then hired as the full-time ESL instructor in 1997, retiring with 21 years in that position. Joe is also a US Navy veteran, having served three years.     GOVERNOR ELECT TOM WOLF CABINET APPOINTMENTS OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Katie McGinty – Chief of Staff Katie McGinty has more than twenty-five years of experience in public service. Since 2008, McGinty has been a leader in the clean energy and environmental engineering space. She has led a global business cleaning up and redeveloping contaminated properties and developing renewable energy, and she has served on the Boards of Directors of publicly traded and privately held corporations. McGinty began her career in the office of then-Senator Al Gore, where she worked on initiatives to strengthen patent protections, encourage manufacturing, and support science education. McGinty also contributed to the reauthorization of the landmark Clean Air Act. McGinty served President Bill Clinton as his Deputy Assistant and then as Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality -- the first woman to head the office. In 2003, McGinty was nominated by Governor Edward G. Rendell to become the first woman to lead the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, where she worked on clean water and mercury reduction initiatives and encouraged job growth in the energy sector, including solar and wind jobs. John Hanger - Secretary of Planning and Policy Born in Nairobi, Kenya, John Hanger came to America in 1970 as an immigrant from Ireland. After graduating from Duke University in 1979, where he majored in Public Policy and History, John attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and then became a legal services attorney at Community Legal Services in Philadelphia.
