Does it Cost? Does it Pay? By Art Preachuk – Agricultural Manager The age old question is raised over and over: how do you know if there’s a payback on your investment? Focusing on agricultural topics, we will attempt to provide you with some of the answers, or at least some information to help you make the decision, on whether it costs or pays. Off the Creek Program Topic: Seeding Forages into Sod A controversial topic that has been seriously discussed over a pint or two of ale! What is the best way to refurbish your forage stand? The 3 main options that are available are (1) knifing into existing stand, (2) desiccation of the stand then knifing in seed, (3) full tillage and seeding a cover The Off the Creek Program is funding ($) and technical support for landowners in Red Deer crop. It’s for those who want to do on-the-ground action, on their land, to protect or restore riparian health, and conserve or improve water quality. Instead, it is about beneficially managing their access and use. Assess the present condition of the pasture, is it relatively healthy or has it been over grazed.
