African American Film Series Tuesday, June 29th, 7:30 - 8:30 PM

Concrete Cowboy, a small movie with a big star (the Golden-Globe-winningL uther star ), is a father-son family drama set in a little seen corner of American culture: North Philadelphia. Beautifully photographed, it brings to vivid life the culture of urban cowboys and those struggling to preserve it. So, hang out with the crew at the stables (on ) and then join us for another engaging discussion in the African American Film Series. Click here for the Zoom link. Contact Michael D'Antonio if you have any questions.

Centering Prayer Group

The Centering Prayer Group will meet on Thursdays from 7:00-7:30 PM.

Click here for this week's Zoom link.

This weekly session is for people who would like to practice Centering Prayer technique along with others from time to time. Anyone who would like to know more about this system of prayer can e-mail the parish office at [email protected] or call (610) 649-1486.

Gardening Angels

Gardeners meet each Friday, 10:00 AM until noon to tend St. Mary's grounds and make them a year-round place of beauty for the entire community. Newcomers and occasional gardeners are welcome. For more information, contact Dianne Williams. Men's Film Night

The next gathering of St. Mary's Men's Film Night will be on Monday, June 21st from 7:30-8:30 PM via Zoom. This month we will talk about the film, The 400 Blows. You can watch it for a nominal fee on Amazon Prime, YouTube, VUDU, and Apple TV. It is also free to watch if you subscribe to HBO Max. Click the link to join the Zoom meeting.

The 400 Blows is an unquestioned film classic. Released in 1959, the movie marked the directorial debut of Francois Truffaut and ushered in the era of New Wave films. As might be expected, it received numerous industry awards. (Curiously, no Oscar, but it does get a 100% rating from ...) The 400 Blows is simply well worth watching. If you haven't had the opportunity to take it in, you're missing something special.

As one critic wrote, The 400 Blows is "an honest, sympathetic and wholly heartbreaking observation of adolescence". As we all know, the teenage years can be difficult. It is an in-between time, inexorably moving toward an adulthood that you don't understand and perhaps don't even want to be part of. In this semi- autobiographical movie, Truffaut gives us a peek at the ups and downs of his own life experiences.

Men's Film Night is just a bunch of guys who enjoy a good film. We watch a movie during the month and then we get together and talk about it. If this sounds like something you might enjoy, please join us! Any questions, reach out to John Krick, Michael D'Antonio, or John Cleary.

Spiritual Reflection Group

Spiritual Reflection Group will meet Monday, June 28, 7:00-8:30 PM, in the chapel. For our discussion we will use a portion of Jonathan Lee Walton's A Lens of Love: Reading the Bible in Its World for Our World. For more information, contact Dianne Williams.

Women's Book Club Thursday, July 15th, at 7:30 PM

We will be discussing “The Lying Lives of Adults” by Elena Ferrante. The novel is a coming of age story of a middle class Neapolitan teenage girl learning about parental secrets, class differences, Neapolitan dialects, and much more in the 1990’s. All are welcome! Please be in touch with Ann D’Antonio to get the zoom link by e-mail if you plan to attend.

Ardmore Food Pantry

The Ardmore Food Pantry served 52 guests on Monday, June 14th.

If you would like to support the food pantry by donating food, here is what we make available for our guests every week:

Cereals Canned meals (beef stew, chili, chef Boyardee) Hearty soups (Campbells Chunky, Progresso) Spaghetti sauce Pasta Canned tuna, chicken, salmon Canned vegetables and beans Peanut butter & Jelly Canned (or cups) fruit and applesauce Crackers (saltines or Ritz) Oatmeal (packets) Mac & cheese (Deluxe preferred) Bottled dressings Mayonnaise (smaller sized jars) Snacks (pudding cups, microwave popcorn, raisins, etc) Granola bars Sliced bread

You may leave your non-perishable donations in the cloister at any time. Perishable items, like produce, may be left at the pantry on Mondays between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Thank you!

If you or your neighbors would like to hold a food drive, please contact Deacon Karen by calling the church office at (610) 649-1486 or by e-mail.

AFP Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in volunteering at the pantry: Sunday evenings. We are in need of more volunteers to pick up our produce donations from Whole Foods on Sunday evenings between 7:00 and 7:30 PM. The produce is then dropped off in the parish hall or in the kitchen fridge if some produce requires refrigeration. We like to rotate the volunteers so that no one is picking up too frequently. Please let Deacon Karen know if you’re interested. Mondays, please click on Sign-up Genius and find a date and time that works for you. Thursdays, we start at 11:00 AM. No sign-up genius. Just stop by the Food Pantry. Saturdays we have alternating teams of volunteers. One team can use a couple of members and meets at 11:00 AM. No sign-up genius necessary, but please contact Deacon Karen if you plan on coming. Sunday afternoons, please come by the Food Pantry around noon. No sign-up genius necessary.

Since we limit the number of volunteers at any session, it is a good idea to check with Deacon Karen beforehand.

Many thanks, prayers, and blessings, The AFP Advisory Board, AFP Volunteers, our Guests and Deacon Karen

Guatemala Companion Ministry

Muchas gracias! Thanks so very much for your generous contributions in support of St. Mary's Guatemala Companion Ministry. Over just a few weeks we have raised a total of $2,000 to address some of the urgent needs of our brothers and sisters in Guatemala.

We look forward to our ongoing companionship with Father Ramon and further understanding of how we can be good neighbors and friends. We hope to hear shortly about more specifics of where these monies will be used and then report back.

Again, thanks so much. For more information about the Guatemala Companion Ministry, contact John Krick or Dianne Williams. Immigration Action Group

St. Mary's Immigration Action Group is supporting HIAS PA by conducting a Collection Drive for Immigrants during the month of June. This event is similar to the successful drive we held back in January, 2020.

HIAS PA is asking for donations of specific, newly purchased household items to assist newly arrived immigrants and refugees set up a new home in our country. These are all relatively inexpensive goods that can be found in various retailers such as Target, Mapes and Dollar Tree. (No need to shop at Saks Fifth Avenue...) Here is the complete list of desired items:

Razors (disposables are fine) Shaving Cream Shower Curtain Hooks Washcloths Dustpans Dustpan Brushes Dish Drying Mats Ladles (plastic ones) Cooking Forks (not wooden ones) Spatulas/Flippers

Please know that you are not required to purchase this complete list. Please buy what your budget and heart allows... Or you can let us do the shopping instead - by making a contribution via Simple Give (indicating your intention for the Collection Drive for Immigrants). Or via personal check to St. Mary's (writing "Immigrants" in the memo line). Please make sure that financial donations are made by Sunday, June 26th, so that we can finalize purchases in June.

Immigration Action Group volunteers will be at the front door of the Parish House to gather your donated items on Saturday 26th between the hours of 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM only.

Any questions - we're happy to assist! Please reach out to John Krick or Holly Chenery.

Interfaith Hospitality Network: Night Without A Bed IHN-ML Hosts Virtual Event to Build Awareness of Family Homelessness

Family homelessness is a national crisis. But it’s also an invisible crisis. Homelessness has an all too familiar stigma attached to it. And it doesn’t tell the whole story!

Families with children make up 35% of the homeless population. But they’re often sheltering out of sight… Doubled up with family or friends. Sleeping in the car. Or outside in a tent.

You can help spread awareness about this crisis. HOW? By participating in our newest virtual event….. Night Without a Bed. On June 26, 2021, spend one night outside the comfort of your own bed. Sleep on the floor of your living room. In the back seat of your car. Or outside on a tent. The choice is yours. Will you join us?

Click here to learn more and register.

This event is particularly designed for church school attendees, youth groups, and families with kids. With school dismissing, grab this Saturday night for a memorable learning opportunity for all in your class, group or family. Send a photo to Anne Wright showing where you spent your night without a bed. Prayer List
